mike & el
halloween: part 1El had found herself once again staring at the alarm clock on her bedside table, the numbers reading 7-2-8, seven twenty-eight. That meant only two minutes until Mike would call, as he did every night.
Her eyes never left the telephone, full of anticipation as she waited for the thing to ring already.
After what felt like much longer than two minutes, it finally did and she snatched it up so quick, it was a surprise the phone even had the chance to ring at all.
"Mike!" She happily exclaimed into the phone, making him laugh instantly.
"Hey, you picked up quick!"
"I have something to tell you!"
"What is it?"
"I didn't know if Joyce would let me or not, but I still asked just in case and she said I could come back home for Halloween!" El excitedly told him, the happiness she felt inside so overwhelming she thought she might just burst.
"Are you serious??"
"Yes! Jonathan said he would drive me! Your sister wants him to go to this party with her, so now he can and I can see you!"
"Oh my God, I didn't think I'd get to see you again until Thanksgiving!" Mike practically yelled into the phone, sounding as if he didn't believe this was actually happening.
"I know! I'm so happy!" She squealed, while giggling like a little girl. "Will can't come though, he already told the boys that live next door he would do something with them."
"Oh, that's okay! I'm glad he made friends. I'm just happy I get to see you. I miss you so much."
"I miss you, too." She softly sighed.
Oh, how she missed him. It was hard being away from him, especially after all that time getting to spend by his side. But, she would be by his side again soon! This time though, she knew exactly when 'soon' would be.
"Hey, this means you get to carve jack-o-lanterns with us and make s'mores when we have the bonfire! You're gonna love it!"
El's thoughts were already running wild with all the fun stuff they were going to do. Amidst those thoughts, something crossed her mind and she hoped that Mike wouldn't find it silly.
"Mike?"
"Yeah?"
"We're probably too old, so I understand if you don't want to but..." El paused for a moment, feeling a bit nervous over what he would say. "Could we maybe go trick-or-treating? I've never been and, you know what, never mind. It's silly."
"El, it's not silly." Mike quickly assured her. "Of course we can!"
"Really?"
"Yeah! And I know all the best spots, so we can get the good candy."
"Okay! What should we dress up as?"
"Hm... Well, we still have a few days, I'm sure we can figure something out before then."
"Can we dress up as something together?" She hesitantly asked, hoping he wouldn't think this idea was silly either.
"Of course, I wouldn't have it any other way."
El rolled over on her back, the brightest smile gracing her face. She couldn't believe it. She was finally getting to go trick-or-treating with Mike.
