gotta have you // jillian edwards

mike & el (au)

It was mid-June, school had been out for weeks and the only thing on most seventeen year olds' minds at the time was having fun. When it came to this particular situation, Mike, Lucas, Dustin and Will were no different than the other teens their age.

It was hot, much too hot to be cooped up in Mike's basement, so they chose to spend their days elsewhere. For them, elsewhere just so happened to be the Hawkins Community Pool.

Most days for them went the same. The boys spent a few hours at the pool, swimming around, diving off the diving board, buying snacks from the snack shack, and eventually they'd get too tired or bored and leave.

Maybe they'd do something at one of their houses, but only if there was enough AC to cool them all off. Then, they'd do it all over again the next day.

This day in particular, ended up being much different from their usual days at the pool, especially for Mike.

"Oh my God." Mike all but gasped, causing all his friends' heads to pop up from where they rested on their chairs. "Who is that?"

The boys all turned their attention to where Mike's was, finding what looked to be a new lifeguard climbing up the chair.

"Must be the new girl, El." Will shrugged, after remembering one of the other workers mentioning her.

They all stared at the girl, as if they had never seen such a sight before.

Hawkins was a small town, filled with the same boring people. So, when a newbie shows up, especially one as pretty as this one, it's kind of hard not to gawk.

"She's pretty." Lucas concluded after taking in her appearance.

From the short distance they stood away, they could see her perfectly. She was about average height, with sun kissed skin, a slightly curvy body and wavy brown locks that stopped right at her shoulders. They couldn't exactly see her facial features, but could see enough to tell that she was attractive.

"Pretty? She's gorgeous!" Mike exclaimed, so enthralled by her that he couldn't tear his eyes away. "Probably the most beautiful girl I've ever laid eyes on..."

After a minute or two had passed, the others soon noticed him still staring, snickering away at their friend's sudden fascination with this girl.

"Mike!" Dustin screamed, waving a hand in front of his face. "Earth to Mike!"

"What?" He snapped, after finally prying his eyes off of her.

"You don't even know the girl." Dustin laughed, clearly finding Mike's behavior ridiculous.

"Yeah, so?" He argued, with a serious look on his face.

"So? You're already looking at her like you're in love!"

"I am in love!" Mike admitted shamelessly, throwing his hand in the air toward her. "Look at her!"

Dustin facepalmed, while shaking his head in disbelief. "Oh God, you're ridiculous."

"I don't care." He waved him off, as he took off in her direction.

"Where are you going??" Lucas shouted, as Mike walked further away.

"To talk to her, duh!" He called back, never taking his eyes off of her.

And he kept his eyes on her, until he had reached his destination. He stood below the somewhat tall chair she sat up in, craning his neck a bit, so that he could talk to her.
