mike & el
christmas: part 4Today was El's last day in Hawkins, her last day with Mike and she was devastated.
She just wanted to stay there with him.
Honestly, she'd be fine with living in his basement, just as she'd done years ago. She may have to hide from his parents again, but at least she'd be with Mike. She'd be home, because home isn't a place with walls and a roof, home is Mike.
And in about four hours, she'd be in a car, riding further and further away from the only true home she's ever known.
That unfortunate moment was hours away though. Right now, she was going to enjoy the last bit of time that she had left with him.
The day after Christmas it had snowed, a good amount too. It was the most snow El had ever seen. They hadn't gotten much time to get out in it, with all the Christmas festivities, but now that all of that was over, it was the perfect time to play around in the snow.
El had made sure to get all of her things packed up ahead of time, so she wouldn't have to waste any more of their time together later.
She was now putting on her gloves and hat, since Mike had insisted she bundle up. It was dreadfully cold out and he didn't want her to get sick, so the more warmth she could get, the better.
Once the two were ready to go outside, along with Holly, who Mike's mom insisted go out with them, they trudged their way through the inches of snow covering the backyard.
"Mike! Can we make a snowman?" Holly excitedly asked, from where she walked alongside El, holding tightly onto her hand.
"I don't know if it'll work Holls, the snow might not hold together well enough."
"Oh come on, Mike. Let's try to make one! Please!" El begged, holding on tighter to his arm.
Of course, that was enough for Mike's decision to be made. If El wanted to do it, then they'd do it. That was usually how things went. Their friends did say he was whipped for a reason...
"Okay then, let's make a snowman!" He cheered, making his girlfriend and little sister very happy. "Holly, you can work on the smaller part, that will be his head. El, you work on the middle part and I'll do the bottom."
"How do we do it?" El questioned, both her and Holly looking to him for an explanation.
"So first, you have to make a snowball and make sure the snow is packed tightly." Mike showed them how while explaining, hoping that it would help them out. "Then, roll the snowball on the ground to make it bigger. Make sure you keep packing the snow together too, that way it stays intact."
Once he had finished demonstrating everything, the girls both nodded, showing that they understood and each got to work on their part of the snowman.
Holly finished her part pretty fast, so she set it down next to where Mike was working on his and ran off back into the house. She was searching for things to use on the snowman, like the carrot nose and some rocks for the eyes and mouth. She even found a pretty red scarf to use for it.
Well, she actually stole the scarf from Nancy's room. It was actually a gift Jonathan had gotten her for Christmas, but Holly didn't see why she wouldn't be allowed to use it, so she simply snatched it off the dresser.
After finding everything she needed, Holly came running back out to find the snowman all put together. She worked quickly to add everything she had found, some of which required Mike's help.
