mike & el"And then he said he missed me and then he just hung up..."
El looked to Max, as she finished her explanation of her previous phone call with Mike, earning her a rushed nod.
"Okay. Okay, so he's obviously lying... but maybe he has a reason."
"A reason to lie?" El quietly questioned, confusion running all throughout her head. Based on the party's rules, this kind of thing wasn't supposed to happen. It wasn't allowed. "But, friends don't lie..."
"Yeah, well, sometimes they do. Boyfriends especially." Max enlightened her, but wasn't too sure that it applied to this particular situation. Mike and El's relationship was much different from most people's, after all. "This is Mike we're talking about here, though. The thought of hurting your feelings would make him sob like a baby, so I don't see him lying unless he absolutely has to."
El didn't know what to say. Mike wouldn't lie to her, he just wouldn't, but this all seems so weird. He said his nana was sick, but she's not sick. Then he says he can't see her today, which is even more weird. They see each other every day, why would he not want to see her?
Did I do something wrong? Maybe he's tired of me...
El couldn't help but feel like she had done something. He was fine last night, normal as ever, so why was he acting this way all of the sudden?
No matter the reason though, Mike was possibly lying to her, for the first time ever and she didn't like the way that made her feel inside.
"You should go talk to him." Max encouraged, interrupting her worrisome thoughts, while she paced the floor. "Figure out what's going on. You need to know what's happening. Either he's a lying piece of shit and you give him a taste of his own medicine or he can explain, everything will be good again and you can move forward."
"Move forward or give him the medicine." El said sternly, more to herself than to Max. "Okay, I'll talk to him. Do you want to come with me?"
"Sure. I need to see Lucas anyways." Max shrugged, pulling El along with her out of her room. The two made their way out the front door, Max hurrying off to get her bike from the side of the house. She gestured for El to hop on the back, when an idea popped in her head. "Wait, El. What do you say we have some fun first? We can deal with our boys later. Besides, it'll be fun to make them squirm a bit. What do you say? You up for a trip to the mall?"
El didn't quite know what Max meant by making them "squirm," but she paid the odd term no mind, nodding her head in agreement.
El had never been to the mall before, but it sounded fun, so she was all for it. She hadn't ever really spent much time with Max alone either and ever since she had apologized to her for not being so nice when she had returned, El had truly wanted to be her friend.
Now, Max was asking her to go to the mall with her and El couldn't help but feel ecstatic inside, just hoping that they would have a good time.

"Isn't this a nice surprise?" Max called out, as El followed her over to where the three oblivious boys they know all too well were retrieving their bikes.
