mike & el

El made her way up the short walkway to Max's house, quickly ringing the doorbell once she'd reached the front door.

Not too many seconds later, her red headed friend flung the door open. "El, hey!"

"Hi, sorry I didn't call, but do you want to hang out today?"

"Well duh! Come on!" Max pulled her inside, slamming the heavy door behind them.

El followed her down the hall to her room, noticing just how empty the house was along the way.

"My mom and Neil are gone, so we can do whatever we want." Max shrugged, lazily plopping back down on her unmade bed.

"Cool!" El nodded and took a seat next to her, her mind already trying to come up with ideas for what they could do.

"Wait, I thought you said you were doing something with Mike today?" Max suddenly asked, eyeing her a bit suspiciously.

El sighed, the reminder of her cancelled plans bumming her out. "I was, but he's sick, so he can't go anywhere."

"Oh I'm sure he is." Max snorted, the comment only confusing El.

"What?"

"He's sick." Max repeated, in a mocking tone. "He probably just wanted to hang out with the boys instead of you."

El felt a bit of anger bubble up inside of her. She didn't appreciate Max's accusation. Mike wouldn't lie to her, not again. He had no reason to.

"I'm telling you, the dumbass probably isn't even sick." Max went on, but El wasn't having it. She hated when Max called Mike names, so that only made it worse.

"Mike is sick! I talked to his mom." She insisted, but Max didn't seem to believe her.

"Whatever you say."

"You think he's lying?" El harshly questioned, crossing her arms across her chest.

Max rolled those icy blue eyes of hers, while she moved to face El. "I wouldn't put it past him."

"What does that even mean?"

"It means, he's done it before and he's a piece of shit, so why wouldn't he do it again?"

Max kept mumbling on about Mike, but El had heard more than enough. "You know what, I'm just going to leave."

She shot up from Max's bed, already making a beeline for the door, but Max grabbed her arm to stop her. El's head whipped around so fast, it's a wonder she didn't get whiplash.

"Why are you leaving??"

"Because I really don't want to hang out with you if you're going to talk about Mike that way. He's not lying and he's not a piece of shit! He's my boyfriend and I love him, so I'd appreciate it, if you didn't say things like that about him!"

El's voice had gotten louder as she went on, leaving Max frozen in place. She really wasn't expecting her to get so angry.

"Jeez, sorry."

El dismissively shook her head and removed Max's hand from her arm.

She stormed off down the hallway, with Max following a few steps behind her.

"I really am sorry, El!"

El glanced back at her, showing not even the smallest bit of forgiveness.
