mike & el"Hey, El!"
El whipped back around, not any happier than she was before. She didn't want to talk to Mike. He was acting like everything was okay and it wasn't.
"I just, wanted to say... you know when I said Nana was sick? She wasn't. I lied."
"I know." She spat back, attempting to leave again, but he kept talking.
"Right right, I just think it was important for you to know the context! Hopper... He went all crazy on me, telling me I'm spending way too much time with you. He made me lie! I mean, you're the most important thing to me in the world! I'd never want to hurt you!"
Mike finally stopped talking once he felt he had gotten everything out, hoping that she wouldn't try to walk out again.
Thankfully, she didn't make a move yet.
El remained quiet, still glaring coldly as she had done before. On the inside though, some of that anger started to fade away.
Not only because of what he said about Hop, but also what he said about her.
It really made her feel things inside, things that only Mike could make her feel and she couldn't help but love it.
After a moment, she dropped the dummy in her arms to the ground and finally decided to say something to him. "He made you lie?"
"Yes! If I hadn't, he would've done something to stop me from seeing you!" He claimed, making her walk a few steps toward him.
Her head was tilted slightly to the side, her eyes focused on him, as she processed everything in her head. "So you only lied because he made you?"
"Of course! I would never choose to lie to you, you know that!" Mike told her, hoping that she would forgive him now that she knew the truth. He couldn't bear having her mad at him any longer.
It had only been a few days, yet he missed the way she would look at him, with so much light in her eyes or the way she would smile so big, as soon as he was near.
As if she had read his mind, a hint of that smile appeared on her face.
El couldn't help but feel thrilled inside over the fact that Mike hadn't lied to her, well not really. Hopper was the one who made him do it.
Mike didn't want to lie to her.
She knew he really wouldn't do something like that.
Max could say all she wants about boyfriends lying all the time, but El knew that hers wouldn't.
"Okay." She finally said, once she had accepted his explanation.
"Okay?" He repeated, unsure of what that one word meant.
El nodded and took a few steps to get to him. Without another word, she leaned up and kissed him, making sure the moment lasted long enough to make up for lost time.
She finally pulled away, leaving him breathless.
"Okay." She repeated, sounding even more sure of herself this time.
El grinned, making him do the same.
"Uh, are you still mad at me though?" He asked, a bit cautiously. He didn't want to assume things were all good just yet, he needed to hear it from her first.
"No." El didn't hesitate to answer, but then thought about it once more. "Well, I am a little mad. You should've told me the truth."
"I know that and I'm really sorry. I won't ever do it again, I promise!"
El knew that he meant what he said, he always does. He promised and Mike always keeps his promises.
"So does this mean I can be your boyfriend again?" Mike asked, looking at her with so much hope in his eyes.
El nodded instantly, wanting nothing more for him to be her boyfriend again. It had only been a few days, yet it felt like a ton.
She missed having him around, where she could hold his hand or simply be near him. It wasn't the same when he wasn't her boyfriend. It was uncomfortable and just didn't feel right.
El continued to bask in how good it felt to think of him as her boyfriend again, until some of the words he had said before popped back in her head.
"Did you mean what you said?" She blurted out, the vague question confusing him once again.
"What?"
"That I'm the most important thing to you?"
The confusion on his face morphed into a look full of so much love, El felt a bit weak in the knees. "Of course I mean it."
"In the whole world?" She questioned, as if that were impossible. From what she had learned, the world was a big place, so that was a lot of importance for one person to have in someone's life.
"The whole entire world." He assured her, with nothing but certainty in his voice.
El couldn't resist kissing him again because what he had just told her was probably the best thing anyone had ever said to her.
She understood how it was possible though, because she felt the exact same way about him.
Mike was the most important thing to her in the whole entire world and there wasn't a thing that could ever change that.
