mike & el
christmas: part 2It was the night of Christmas Eve, which meant all members of the Wheeler family were gathered at Mike's house for the holiday.
Mike's grandparents, aunts, uncles, and all his younger, slightly annoying cousins were there, happily making themselves at home for the evening.
Mike had been so excited for the night, given that Christmas is one of his favorite holidays, but he was especially excited that El was going to be part of it.
He was so thrilled for everyone to meet El that he had introduced her to each one as soon as they had walked through his front door.
There were so many people she couldn't even begin to remember their names. Whatever their names were, they were all so incredibly nice to her and treated her as if she were their own family.
Almost every single person she met wrapped her up in a big hug, told her she was pretty or made sure to mention how thrilled they were that Mike had brought her along to the family Christmas.
El had especially loved his Nana though and quickly came to realize that the woman seemed to really love talking. She had been chatting El's ears off for the past ten minutes, while Mike was off doing something for his mom.
Nana Rosie was a very sweet lady, who told her so many stories about Mike.
She told El all about the Christmas when Mike was four and decided to take his clothes off and run circles in the front yard. She also told about the time he was ten and tried to teach her D&D, but when it didn't work out so well, he ran out of the room crying. Mike had only wanted to play the game with his Nana and he felt so bad that he couldn't even explain it well enough for her to understand.
El also learned of the time he said his first curse word around his Nana, which didn't end well for him. He also ran out of the room crying when that happened.
She listened intently to each and every story, loving all of the new things she was learning about her beloved boyfriend. Mike didn't tell her things like this, but she understood why. Embarrassing stories from your childhood aren't exactly things that guys tell their girlfriends.
At some point though, Nana Rosie got tired of telling those stories about Mike and her words came to an abrupt end before she went on talking again. "Alright, spill it honey! Is he a good boyfriend to you?"
El giggled, while shyly glancing down. "Mike is the best!"
Nana Rosie placed a comforting hand on El's shoulder, looking happily at her. "Oh good! I'm so glad that he has someone like you! For awhile there, I was afraid he'd just spend the rest of his life down in that basement of his playing those silly games."
El nodded along, not really knowing what to say now. Luckily, she didn't have to try and come up with anything, because Mike chose that moment to come back over.
Once Nana Rosie noticed Mike coming their way, all her attention went to him. "Oh! Here comes my handsome grandson!"
Mike playfully scoffed at the comment, while taking his place next to El.
"Mike, dear, I just love El! She's so beautiful, inside and out!"
"Oh I know Nana." Mike assured her, knowing just how beautiful El is. He didn't need anyone to tell him that, he's always known.
"Thank you." El smiled softly, the compliment meant for the both of them.
"El, did I already tell you the story of when he-"
