mike & elSaturday nights were El's favorite. Movie night with Mike in his basement, all alone, just the two of them.
Really, it used to be a night for the whole party, but their friends quickly grew tired of Mike and El's behavior during the movies, so they decided to just let them have it all to themselves.
The couple would be fine for the first few minutes, but then it was like a switch flipped and just like that, they were attached at the mouth.
Dustin was always the first to call them out, not understanding how the ones who always picked out the movies, were the ones who never even watched them.
So, the others officially declared Mike and El have movie night to themselves, deciding it would be better, and much more enjoyable, for everyone.
Mike and El quickly realized that it was, indeed, more enjoyable.
Since the new terms for movie night were established, it typically went the same for them every time. They'd put a movie in, with all intentions of watching it, only to end up right where they always do... making out on Mike's couch, in the fort, or wherever else they ended up.
They always conveniently had the house to themselves on Saturday nights, with the occasional exception of Nancy, but she never bothered them.
Perfect opportunity to make out as much as they pleased.
Tonight though, they hadn't planned on watching the movie at all. After Mike had gotten all worked up over the guy at the video store flirting with El, all she wanted to do was kiss him until he no longer felt like the guy was worth worrying about.
Mike was more than okay with the idea, so you could imagine how disappointed he was to find the station wagon in the driveway.
"Why are your parents here?" El asked, through what could only be classified as a whine. Clearly, she was disappointed, as well.
"I have no idea. It's Saturday, they're supposed to be gone to my dad's work dinner."
Turns out, the dinner was cancelled, so Mike's parents now had nowhere to be for night, which meant Holly didn't have to go to a friend's house.
So, the three remaining Wheeler's would not be out of the house that night.
How unfortunate.

Once Mike and El made it to the basement, after having to make small talk with Mrs. Wheeler for longer than they'd hoped, Mike cleared off the couch. He retrieved their blankets and pillows from their place in the fort and piled them on the couch.
El put the movie in, soon going over and settling in next to Mike. Their glorious plan of making out the whole time now sadly exchanged for at least trying to watch the movie. If Mike's parents or even Holly caught them down there doing what they planned to do, well, it wouldn't end well.
The lovebirds successfully made it through the first six minutes, but once it set in that they were alone down there, in the dark, all cuddled up next to one another on the couch, the temptation eventually became too good to resist.
"Mike..." El said softly, as her hand mindlessly played with his own.
"Yeah?" Mike took his attention away from the television, looking down at her, where she sat cuddled against his chest.
"This movie sucks."
Mike chuckled, tightening the hold his arm had around her. "Hey, you picked it out! It's not my fault you have bad taste in movies."
