mike & elJune 1987
Mike and El were spending yet another Summer night together, Mike's car taking them wherever they managed to end up.
And when it comes to those two, there's really no telling where that may be.
This night in particular, they had planned on going to Lover's Lake, but that's not exactly where they ended up.
They did make it to the lake, but then somehow, El had convinced Mike to drive even further, right past the giant no trespassing sign.
It just seemed like whatever was beyond that sign had a beautiful view of the lake, as well as most of Hawkins and El wanted to enjoy that view, so why not break the rules?
Truthfully, it didn't take much to convince Mike at all, he would do anything for her the second she asked him.
He drove past the tree with the big red warning nailed right to it, without a care in the world.
Once they had found the perfect spot, they sat up on the hood of Mike's car, their eyes on the dark sky above them, admiring all the stars. It was one of El's favorite things to do. She loved learning more about the luminous orbs of gas in the sky and Mike loved telling her all about them.
His intelligence was one of her favorite things about him. She loved that he could always answer her questions and tell her anything she wanted to know. He's the very reason that she knows most of what she knows now.
Sure, school was kind of responsible for teaching her things, but without Mike, she wouldn't have been able to understand any of it. He seemed to have a way with words and explaining things, which was something her teachers couldn't do very well.
Mike was in the middle of explaining Orion's Belt, when she shot a hand out on his arm to stop him from talking.
"What is it?" He asked, looking down at her with slight concern. He didn't know if something was wrong, or if she just didn't understand what he was talking about.
El didn't answer him. She only hopped down off the front of the car, walking further away as she stared off into the distance. "Mike, do you hear that??"
Mike did the same, going over to stand beside her. He was confused as to what she was referring to, until he heard it. He quickly realized what the sound was and it grew closer and closer until flashing blue lights were right in front of them.
"Oh shit!"
The cop car came to a halt, the tires stirring up dirt in the air around them. The door was then flung open and thankfully, a man who was not Hopper stepped out.
"Well, would you look at what we have here." Officer Callahan sneered, with an arrogant grin on his face. "Your dad know that you're out here breaking the law with your little boyfriend?"
"No..." El mumbled, crossing her arms over her chest, with a huff.
Every one of those guys that works with Hop always seemed to irritate her, no matter the situation. This one in particular though, was one of the worst ones. He always spoke to her as if she were a five year old.
