It was strange that Jon was in a hospital bed instead of me this time. He was hooked up to machines and has been conscious for hours. Even though the doctors said that he will fine and was lucky, I couldn't help but worry about him. I also felt guilty that I knew that he was taking something and didn't say anything about it, second time of being a shit friend. I won't even ask what caused this, because I knew it had something to do with his break up with Camelia. It was his first time truly being in love and he lost her.
His family and I have been at the hospital waiting room all night. His mom's nose was red and her eyes puffy, it was the first I've ever seen Mrs. Wells in a sweat pants and tee. She was sitting in a chair opposite Mr. Wells and their daughter, Charlotte, who was cuddled up in her father's arm. Mr. Wells was the one I was more intrigued with; he sat in his chair all night and had not said a word. His eyebrows were down and close together with narrowing lips.
Shana couldn't stay at the hospital because she had to lie down or risk having a backache from sleeping in these chairs, but she promised to be back in the morning to bring me some clothes.
"Thank you, good morning." I heard Shana's voice as a nurse opens the ward door for her. She was carrying a tray of coffee and a bag. "Morning, how's he doing?" She asks giving out the coffees.
"The doctor said he's going to be fine. They'll just keep him for one more day to monitor." Mrs. Wells said getting up and yawning.
"Evelyn, hun why don't you go home and take a nap? And take Char with you. He's going to be fine." Mr. Wells said looking down at Charlotte who was now sleeping on his shoulder.
"I'm not leaving my son, Clifford. Now, I'm going to the washroom to freshen up and then I'm going to see my son." Mrs. Wells walked off.
Shana sat beside me, kissing my forehead. She handed me a coffee. "How's everything?"
"Last night he was fine one minute and then he wasn't..."
"I'm' sorry that happened to you but let me rephrase that question. How are you doing babe?"
"I'm fine, a little nauseated but fine." She leaned her head and raised her eyebrows, "I'm alright now that you're here." Moments later a doctor came out and told us Jon has awakened. We all went in except for Mr. Wells, who stayed behind to wake up Charlotte.
Jon looked like hell; his eyes had dark circles and his skin dry. His eyes were drooped and sad. "What happened?" His groggy voice managed to say.
"You don't remember what happened Buddy?" I asked pulling up a chair to sit.
"No. Last I remembered was using the bathroom."
"You had an overdose bud. You're in the hospital but the doctor said you're going to be fine."
"Shit." He muttered.
Tears ran down Mrs. Wells's cheeks as she rushed into bed to hug her son. "Honey you give us quite a scare." She continued to kiss him repeatedly on his forehead.
"Evelyn stop cuddling the boy." Judge Wells said gruffly. Mrs. Wells glared at him before turning he focus back to Jon.
"Mom, I'm okay." Jon said.
"Why would you go ahead and do something like that?"
"Because he doesn't care, Evelyn. Jon always does stupid things like this without considering the effect it has on others. "Mr. Wells walks into the room with his hands buried in his pockets.
"Cliff! Our son just woke up from an overdose. Couldn't this wait?"
"Are you forgetting what happened in Dubai? Or do you remember that party he thrown in our house that destroyed everything?! The number of totaled cars? Or are you forgetting the pregnancy scares in high school, six girls Silvia! Six! Over the span of one year. It's a damn surprise he hasn't bankrupt his company yet." Mr. Wells gave his wife a frustrated look, while Jon stared back at him.
