Heart broken

"What was that? Did you see her, did you see Rey?" I looked around confused, the connection had broken and I was back with Rose.  I looked at her and nodded, "Teekado has taken her on his ship and I can guess where they're headed".  I began walking quickly through the trees, heading for the Tie fighter I had left there.  Rose ran after me, "What? Who's Teekado?".  "One of the knights of Ren, I beat him and he left. He's doing this to hurt me" "Where's he taking her?" She asked jogging to keep up with me "To general Hux of the First Order". I saw Roses eyes become wide then, "Oh my god, we've got to tell the others!" "There's no time" I said walking even faster now, panic filling my veins, they couldn't hurt Rey, they just couldn't, I wouldn't let them.

We had reached the Tie fighter and I was climbing in.  Rose climbed up too, "No, no I can't take you with me" I said sternly. Rose looked me squarely in the face, "You can and you will. If you won't fetch the others then you'll  have to take me, you can't do this alone" she said stubbornly, climbing into the rear seat and fastening the seat belt. I sighed and climbed in in front of her. "And just so you know, I'm not doing this to keep you safe, I'm doing this for Rey" Rose shot as a closing statement as the cockpit shut above our heads.

I sighed again, missing the warmth from Rey and giving rise to another swell of loneliness and fear, I had to get her back. We approached the First Orders base, swinging low, heading through the trees, keeping off the radar. When we landed I climbed out, followed by Rose. Luckily I had my saber and Rose had a blaster but we were still woefully outnumbered here, this wasn't going to be easy. I led the way. There were underground tunnels which controlled the heating and cooling on the base. We went inside and I led Rose silently through the maze until we reached a dead end. "Oh genius, so where now?" Rose hissed. I pointed upwards to a steel trapdoor. It was locked. I closed my eyes and imagined the lock on the door, I imagined the locks inner workings and then suddenly there was a click and I heard Rose gasp. I opened my eyes and pushed the trap door gently. It swung open. We poked our heads up and saw a long corridor running in both directions. I knew where we were. We were right next to Huxs private quarters. I climbed up and then offered my hand to Rose. I saw her hesitate and then she took it.

We headed for the first door and paused, voices were coming from inside. Hux's and another voice, shrill and strong, Rey's. "I hear Rey in there" I whispered and then without thinking I knocked on the door. The voices stopped abruptly. I knocked again "For goodness sakes, who is it?" Came Hux's voice. Rose spoke then, "General I have an urgent message for you". Muttering and then the door opened. As soon as Hux appeared I rushed him, my saber ignited. He stumbled backwards, losing his balance and falling onto the bed next to Rey. Rey was looking at me, tears in her eyes. I took in her appearance. Her clothes were slightly ripped and there was that smudge of blood on her cheek and more blood on her clothes. "What have you done to her?" I screamed, holding my saber to Hux's neck. "Ren how great to have you back. Nothing, just checking she was ok, you know after everything" Hux said, a smile playing on his lips. I narrowed my eyes, not wanting to ask him for more information but knowing that I had no choice. "What's that supposed to mean?" I said sternly, the light of the saber illuminating his pale features, "Just having lost a baby, I wanted to check on her" he finished, his eyes on mine, awaiting my reaction. For a moment I thought I might drop my lightsaber.  I heard Rey sob and I looked at her.  Just that one look was enough to confirm to me that Hux wasn't lying, her eyes were full of pain, such terrible pain that I wanted to run and hold her.  Tears began to form in my eyes.  Behind me Rose had begun to cry, her blaster shaking as she pointed it at Hux.  I looked back at Hux, desperately blinking back my own tears, "I said what did you do to her?" I screamed again, holding the saber so close to Hux now that his clothes began to smoke, "You should be thanking me Ren.  I found her slumped under a tree, blood everywhere.  We brought her back here, the medical droid confirmed the miscarriage.  Seems that you should have been taking better care of her Ren".  "You bastard!" Rose shouted at Hux.  I glanced at Rey who was crying silently now, her eyes on me, "You said we and yet I see only one of you, so who is we?" I asked.  A noise behind me and then I heard Rey and Rose scream out in unison "Look out!".  The last thing I saw was Teekado smiling at me, "Hi" he said, his face in a sneer before everything went black.

Hands shaking my arm urgently was the first thing that I was aware of.  I sat up too quickly and my head thumped, "Argh.  Rey, Rey is that you?" I said, my eyes squeezed shut waiting for the pain to subside, "It's Rose".  I opened my eyes and looked at her, trying to remember what had happened.  Hux, I had seen Hux and, oh god Teekado too.  "The baby" I said suddenly looking around, "Rey lost our baby" I said quietly, remembering the pain in her eyes.  I felt Roses arms encircling me and at first I resisted but then as the total agony of what I had seen and heard hit me I dropped my head and began to cry.  I didn't care that I was doing this in front of the traitors girlfriend, I didn't care what she saw or what she thought of me.  Rey had been carrying my child.  "Shh, it's ok, we'll get her back, she'll be ok" Rose soothed, her hand rubbing my back gently.  I lifted my head and wiped away tears, pushing back from Rose and looking around,"Where are we?" I asked, my voice wavering.  "I'm not sure, after they knocked you out they put a bag over my head.  Looks like some sort of meeting room".  I looked around.  Of course, we were in the main meeting room.  I hadn't recognised it without the long central table.  "Did you see where they took Rey?" I asked, attempting to stand and then falling onto one knee, Rose rushing to my side, "Woah careful, you got hit pretty hard.  No, I have no idea where they took her, I'm sorry Ben".  At the use of my name I suddenly felt glad not to be alone.  I sat back down, my knees pulled up, my head in my hands, "I need to know she's alright" I said quietly.  Rose came and sat next to me then, her own knees pulled up under her chin, "You love her, don't you?" She asked softly, her eyes on mine.  I nodded, my eyes dropping to the floor.  Rose reached out and squeezed my hand, "Why don't you try your force connection thing?" I looked up then, she was right, maybe then I could at least see where she was. I closed my eyes, searching for that familiar light and then suddenly I saw it and I rushed towards it.

Rey was lying in a bed in what looked like a medical room. She was covered by a sheet and her dark hair was splayed out across the pillow. She was crying silently. Suddenly she realised that I was there and she struggled to a seated position as I rushed over to her, wrapping my arms around her shoulders. She began to sob and I felt my own face becoming wet with tears, "Rey I'm sorry, I'm so sorry" I said, my voice choked with emotion. Rey nodded, her head against my shoulder as I held the back of her head. "I don't know how to get out of here Ben" she whispered, her tongue flicking out to lap up tears from her cheeks. "I know what room we're in and I know where you are, they aren't too far apart. If I can get out of here then I'll be able to get to you" I said reassuringly. Rey nodded, smiling weakly at me before the force connection broke.
