- The Next Day -

Jennie POV

I agreed to go out to dinner with Kai again. I guess I did sort of enjoy his company. He was slightly over eager at first but when he finally got over his self absorption he turned out to be an interesting conversationalist. And I figured that there would be no harm in having another dinner with him.

As I exit the elevator after work I see him standing right in front of me with a self-satisfied smirk and I can't help but roll my eyes at his ego. But I guess to other girls, it is rather charming in its own way. He offers me his arm, which I accept. And as we walk off I automatically search the lobby for Lisa.

I can't help it, ever since she failed to turn up yesterday I've been worried for her. Its not like her to just give up like this.

She's just not that kind of person. Something must have happened. True enough I see her at her usual spot.

This time however she's slumped against the pillar looking entirely pale and sick. She starts coughing really badly and I resist running over to check on her. I continue walking on with Kai who's talking about his day but my eyes are still on her.

Just then Lisa raises her head and she sees me. Our eyes meet and I see the hurt and longing in her eyes. I've been avoiding looking at her just so I can avoid seeing that. Suddenly she starts coughing again and she falls on one knee.

Instinctively I dash across the lobby to catch her as she stumbles.

Lisa looks up into my eyes in surprise. I guess she didn't expect me to react this way. Hell I didn't even expect myself to react like that. I refuse however to hold on her gaze, I don't want to prolong that moment. I place her arm over my shoulder as I prop her up letting her use my body to support her. I feel her arms travel around my waist as she pulls me in closer to her. My heart aches to be in her embrace again.

'Kai-shi, I'm so sorry but can we take a rain check on dinner?'

I question Kai as he stands before me.

As expected he raises his eyebrow at me quizzically, silently questioning me, asking me what all this is about. And because I could offer no explanation I find myself staring down at the floor.

'So this is that person huh? I didn't expect that. I guess we should take a permanent rain check.' He replies with a good-natured shrug. 'But Jennie-shi I hope you know what you're doing. Give me a call if you need anything. Have a good night.' he replies as he bows.

'I'm sorry' I tell him as I bow as well trying to convey my heartfelt apologies. I didn't mean to cancel on him.. not like this.

He turns around to walk off and I stare at his retreating figure wondering what on earth I'm supposed to do now that I've gone and done this.

'Come on, lets go Lis.' I whisper. I remove her arms from around my waist to place them on my shoulder so that I can support her as I prepare to walk out the building.

'Nini..' she calls.

'Don't Lisa, don't say anything.' I respond.
