A Perfect Surprise

Axel let out a loud sigh and stretched his arms above his head. Today was a long day of training and every muscle in his body ached, even in places he didn't even realize he had muscles. All he wanted to do was go home and crawl into bed, wrap his arms around you and sleep away the pain.

Finally arriving home, Axel opened the door to the tiny shared apartment, cracking his neck as he walked through the living room. A loud crash from the kitchen made him stop in his tracks, followed by a muffled groan. Peaking through the doorway, Axel found you surrounded by a mess of bowls, spilled milk and egg shells. A stipe of blueish-green mixture of some sort ran across your cheek.

"Axel! When did you get home?"

"Just now. What's all this?"

"Well...It was supposed to be a surprise." You glanced around the messy kitchen, disappointed with your lack of progress. "I know you've been training really hard with Merlin and Master Yen Sid, so I wanted to make you some sea-salt ice cream from scratch to show you how proud I am of you. But I keep screwing up the recipe! I've already started a third batch and I think I made it too salty this time."

Axel smiled softly as he listened to you fret about the failed attempts of making his favorite ice cream. "You did this for me, babe?"

"Of course! Well, I tried to!" You took a wooden spoon and dipped it into a bowl and held it up to Axel. "Here, taste this. Tell me what you think."

Axel's lips touched on the spoon, tasting the bluish liquid. He recoiled slightly, smacking his lips together at the too-salty concoction. "Yeah, just a tad bit salty," he laughed.

"Ughhh! Why can't I get this right!?" You threw the spoon into the sink in frustration. All you wanted to do was something nice for your boyfriend.

A warm pair of arms snaked around your torso. Axel placed a kiss on your temple before resting his chin on the top of your head, inhaling the scent of your strawberry shampoo. "Thank you, [Y/N]. This is the nicest thing that anyone's done for me in a long time. It means a lot to me."

"It would have been nicer if I actually did it right..." you grumbled.

A laugh rumbled in Axel's throat. "Do you have enough to try again? I'll help this time. It'll be fun!"

"Yeah, I think I have enough for one more batch. Just gotta clean up some of these bowls first to make it."

An idea popped into Axel's head, making him grin from ear to ear. "Well then," he said slyly as he grabbed the bowl of too-salty ice cream mixture in his hand, "let's get this cleaned up then!"

Suddenly, you felt a huge splash of warm liquid pour on top of your head, dripping down your shoulders and covering part of your face. You let out a shriek, registering that Axel had just dumped the entire bowl of useless ice cream all over you. Mouth gaping open, the liquid started falling into your mouth, the salty taste strong on your tastebuds. Axel stood there laughing his head off until you finally turned around glaring at him.

"You think you're so funny, don't you?" Despite the disgusting feeling and slight annoyance towards Axel, you had a hard time fighting back a smile.

"I don't think I'm funny, I know I am." Axel gave you that shit-eating grin that made your heart skip a beat. Ooooh he's in trouble now.

"Fine then. If you're funny..." you reached behind you and whipped a second bowl of unused ice cream, smacking Axel in the face, "then I'm hysterical!" The ice cream covered Axel's entire face and part of his spiky red hair. He slowly wiped away the mixture, revealing the emerald green eyes that stared back at you playfully.

"That's it! Now you're getting it!"

Both of you grabbed the first thing you could both reach to throw at each other: more excess ice cream, some extra milk, handfuls of sugar. You even took an egg and smashed it on top of Axel's hair, the egg yolk running through his hair and dripping down his neck. The food fight turned into a playful wrestling match, the two of you slipping and sliding all over the floor and further covering yourselves with more ingredients all the while laughing away.

Axel pinned you down, your back flat against the floor. He bent down and nibbled at the soft flesh between your neck and shoulders, licking at the blue-green liquid. "That's what was missing: it tastes better on you!"

"Har-har, very funny!" You rolled your eyes and smiled, giving him a quick peck on his lips.

"Thank you," Axel whispered, rubbing his nose against yours. "This was a perfect surprise."

"You're welcome!" Looking around the room at the mess, you let out a laugh. "Guess we should get this cleaned up."

"Yeahh...maybe after we shower off this sticky ice cream first. Meet me in the shower?"

"I'd never say no to that."
