"She's gone haywire," Saix's voice rang through the Circle Room. "Refusing to follow orders, destroying our own Dusks; Numbers XIII and XIV cannot collect as many hearts as before thanks to her. The entire objective of re-completing Kingdom Hearts is in jeopardy."
'You're wrong. You don't even know what you're talking about.'
"Do we know where she is now?" Xemnas asked.
"Last sighting was in Neverland, three days ago. No one's seen her since."
Xigbar let out a haughty laugh, disrupting the conversation. "A rogue Organization member, huh? That's gotta be a first."
"Are you sure you no one is aware of her whereabouts? Someone must have seen her during their missions."
"Unless I'm being lied to, no one knows where she is," Saix said.
'That's not true... I do.'
"Xemnas, if we lose any more Dusks to her, our plans will suffer greatly. The amount of hearts that are collected on a daily basis have already began to drop," Saix continued. "She must be eliminated."
'NO!'
Axel nearly jumped out of his seat, the words on the tip of his tongue but he bit them back. You two had been secretly seeing each other for months now. Only Roxas and Xion knew what was going on between the two of you, and you both trusted them completely to keep quiet about it. The others were clueless, and Axel knew well enough that it had to stay that way. For both your sakes.
"Axel," Xemnas said. "I've turned to you in the past to handle traitors of the Organization."
Oh, no...
"Deal with it."
Xemnas disappeared in a dark corridor before Axel could even open his mouth in protest. The others followed suit, until only Saix, Roxas and Xion remained in the room. Saix glared at Axel for a long moment, trying to figure him out from across the room.
"Is there a problem, Axel?"
Axel shot a look at Saix and left his expression unchanged. "No," he spoke through his teeth.
"Good. He's chosen you for a reason. Don't let us down." And with that, Saix disappeared.
Roxas and Xion looked up at Axel from their lower seats in the circle, their eyes wide with worry.
"Axel..."
"What are you going to do?" Xion whispered.
"I'll handle it," Axel said. "You two go on back to your rooms and continue your missions. I'll meet you tomorrow at the tower, same time. Promise." He opened his own dark corridor and disappeared from the room, leaving Roxas and Xion hanging on a thread.
In an instant, Axel re-emerged in an alleyway of a small town. Carefully checking his surroundings, he walked out to the town square surrounded that was by trees and cobblestone roads jetting out in every direction. It was nearly sunset, and the lanterns that dotted along the roads started lighting up one by one. There were a few people hanging around the fountain in the center of the square, idly chatting away and not paying much attention to the out-of-place man dressed in a long black coat.
Suddenly, someone screamed out in the distance and everyone started to run away all at once. A swarm of Heartless and Dusks started overrunning the square, causing a panic. Axel drew his chakrams and ran towards the commotion, but before he could even raise his weapons, the Heartless and Dusks were vanquished in a blink of an eye.
"How'd you know where to find me?" Your voice was calm when you spoke, despite the amount of energy used in your last attack.
"It's your home. No one comes here on their missions, so it's the easiest place for you to slip away."
"You know me too well," you whispered. Hesitating, you lowered your weapon slightly but kept a firm grip as you stepped towards him. "Axel, I know why you're here."
Axel couldn't bear to bring his eyes to meet yours. So many emotions filled him: despair, panic, hopelessness, anxiety, love. They all bubbled up deep inside him until they were about to overflow.
"You're here on orders to get rid of me. Just like the others."
"You know me too well..." he retorted.
There was a long beat of silence. So many thoughts ran through each of your minds, but before you could even come up with the words to say them out loud they dissipated into thin air. Why did it have to come to this?
"Axel, you know this is all wrong. Sending the Dusks to attack innocent people, collecting the hearts of those who've done no harm to anyone ever. I get that Kingdom Hearts needs to be re-completed so we can be re-completed, but how many lives do we have to destroy to achieve it? I don't care if every heart is full of darkness. Not everyone acts on it!"
"I know. But there's gotta be another way for us to fix all this. You, me, Roxas and Xion, we'll think of something together! So just-just come back to the castle and we'll figure out a plan," Axel pleaded.
"You and I both know that I can't come back," you said. "Xemnas will turn me into a Dusk the second I step foot back in the castle."
Axel huffed in frustration. You had a point, so what now?
"Do it."
His whole body fell numb, the two words barely whispered to him but echoed loudly through his ears.
"Axel, you have to." Tears started to fall from your face, but you refused to show any further emotion. "If you don't, they'll turn you into a Dusk. I won't let that happen to you."
"So we'll run away together!" His voice rang loud through the square, but you didn't flinch. Instead, you gave him a gentle smile. Walking up to him, you gently took his wrist and held it in your hands soothingly, his weapon still between his fingers. You raised his arm up so the spokes on his chakram barely touched your chest, where your heart once lived.
"It's okay. It's going to be okay, I promise," you smiled.
He didn't have the time to process what happened next. He felt the weapon slice into you, piercing your soft, delicate skin and knock the wind from your lungs. You stood still for what seemed like eternity with the weapon in your chest until your legs buckled underneath you. Axel caught you as you fell, and he cradled you close to his chest and rocked you back and forth.
"I can't let you go! I won't," he cried.
"It's going to be okay," you repeated. "Just find a way to stop this."
Axel took your hand and brought it up to his cheek, kissing it repeatedly. Your body started to fade away right before his eyes; it was too late.
"I'll be seeing you in the next life." You gave him a warm smile before darkness overcame you altogether.

"I don't get it," Roxas murmured. His eyes were transfixed on the doorway to the top of the clock tower, his ice cream melting in his hands. "He promised he'd be here."
Xion sadly looked in the same direction, worry starting to overcome her.
"I hope everything's okay..."
