"29 28 27 26 25," the announcer counted down.
Each second made me more scared, raising my anxiety.
I looked around again for Autumn...even Drakob. After ten seconds of scanning, I found Drakob but he was already looking at me, his eyes locked to me.
But I couldn't see Autumn anywhere.
I looked again, gave up then looked back at Drakob.
"14 13 12," oh god.
He surprisingly gives me a small smile and I do back to him also, despite it feeling as if my smile had a weight of stone. We stop staring at one another when the announcer had reached,
"7 6 5,"
Oh crap. I haven't even looked around the arena properly for the cornucopia to get supplies from, or a place to run and find safe shelter. I quickly try and make myself a plan.
Try and get a bag, weapon or some item or food to help me out there and run to the forest, since it will be easier than the freezing cold mountains.
Ok, got it.
"2 1," and that was it. The very moment I was dreading.
Before I knew it, everyone had already sprinted in different directions leaving me at least a couple of seconds behind, which could in fact cost me everything, it might of done so already.
I immediately jump franticly off my platform and sprint as fast as I can to the cornucopia.
I suddenly stop and realise it's a massive trap. Careers and big, strong tributes are stabbing the lone ones brutally. It was like a heartless battlefield.
A bloodbath.
Puddles of blood covered the short grass, oozing the soil to thick red mud. I hide behind a near tree trunk, hoping no one saw me. In another quick second, I race for the nearest bag pack in the blood mud. Before, I saw a red haired boy pick it up and moments later he was literally stabbed in the back by Cory-the career that gives me horrible looks of disgust. The bag is swamped in blood mud. I try and pull at it as hard as I can, but it won't budge.
Someone's approaching me. I can hear.
I give one last push and fall in a heap of blood mud, but at least I've got a pack. My clothes are ruined already.
Glancing for a single second, a girl is zooming towards me with something in her hand. Crap.
I roll up, even more drenched in mud and run as fast as I can away from her, faster than I have in my entire life to the forest. Looking back, she's still chasing me. Before I have a chance to turn my head back, she throws something my way. Something silver.
"Ahh," I breathe. It was a knife which just skimmed my neck but cut deeply across my cheek. I'm not sure how deep, but I could already feel gallons of blood fall down my cheek, going past my chin.
It stung like hell.
She tries to aim again, but I dodge. After she throws another aim, without even thinking, I somehow catch the blunt end of the dagger and in seconds shoot it back to her.
The blade zoomed to her and shot her directly in the eyeball, knocking her flat on the ground dead. I've just killed someone for the first time...
I've just killed someone.
I cannot dwell on this, I need to go, now!
But the forest has Careers standing near the entrances, the place will be packed!
