Act 1; Scene 10: The Bad Guy

(We open up on Darktown, with Remus, Janus, and Jeff sitting around a table)

Jeff: When was the last time Rose came down to check on us.

Janus: She's to busy watching over the happy, bright side of town.

Jeff: She has no idea what's coming to her.

Remus: Guys...I've been meaning to talk to you about something.

Janus: About what Remus?

Remus: Well...maybe we shouldn't do this to Rose. I mean, Janus I know you want her. I know you want to rule the kingdom but...maybe we should just let her do her job.

Jeff: Oh no you did not just say that...

Remus: It's true Janus! What about the rest of us on this side of town! You and your siblings are rich, but that's because your families were friends! I mean you, Jeff, Megan, Alex...you guys have it all! Then there are the others! Everyone else on this side of town.

Janus: Remus, you know we think of you as one of us! I just need more time.

(Remus, clearly not happy about this, stands up and slams his hands on the table)

Remus: Janus that's what you've been saying for weeks! You keep saying, I just need time. I just need time. Janus, I don't have time! Me and hundreds of others are living on the streets while you and your siblings live like royalty! You didn't do anything to deserve it! All you do is plan ways to get back at Rose for not loving you back!

Jeff: Remus-

(Janus stands up and starts shaking Remus)

Janus: I'm doing all of this for you Remus! Stop being so ungrateful! I am going to make us even richer! I'm going to give you shelter! I will rule, and nothing will get in my way!

Remus: Janus, you want to hurt her! It's not right! I'm tired of doing what you tell me to do, just so I can survive!

Janus: If it weren't for me you'd be dead Remus!

Remus: Well maybe I'd rather be dead than keep loving you, Janus! Like how we used to be! Loving and caring, when we were together you were a different person, more kind!

(Janus drops Remus on the floor)

Janus: I could never love you, Remus. You're just the bad guy. Now get to work, I plan to start a civil war by the end of the week.

(Janus walks out of the room, Jeff following. Remus sits on the floor and grabs a notebook that fell off the table. A picture of Remus and Janus fell out, and Remus starts crying. After a minute6t he gathers himself together and starts writing a plan for Janus)

*music starts here*

Remus: You think you do the right thing but incidentally
You find the whole world would prefer it differently
You go from being fair to falling flat
You see what's there
You find you're at the wrong end of the stick
And you're starting to feel sick of when
The story drops you hard into the pavement
Even though you thought you knew what "To behave" meant
But you find out you were thinking wrong
And you wind up back where you belong
And you try to get it right but instead, it just comes back to bite you

(Remus stands up and starts looking at all the pictures in the room of the two together)

Remus: It's a trip discovering
You're not the hero
You thought you were Augustus
But you're Nero
You might say it's just
Your evil twin
But it's not some villain clone
No, it's you and you alone
To blame
I never wanted to be the bad guy

The world looks up

And you start to understand

(He starts throwing everything around, and falls on the floor)

Remus: And again

And again

(He looks at the picture again, and curls up in a ball)

Remus: I never wanted to be the bad guy...

(The lights fade out on Remus crying)
