Act 2; Scene 2: Forbidden Fruits

Rose: First of all, you're a couple minutes late to the party.
Second of all, why are you here?

Remus: Just here to sign a peace treaty, don't you want this civil war to end too?

Rose: Listen, Remus, I'm not naive like I once was. I've seen how the world really is, so you can just move along. I don't believe you.

Remus: Alright, you leave me no choice.

*start music*

(Remus starts staring at the Sanders boys and Rose. They look around and the stage goes black except for one spotlight on all of them.)

Remus: Adam and Eve bought knowledge
For the small price of a little seed
They also lost eternal life
But what's the fruit without the pits?

Logan: But apple's don't have-

Remus: I am Janus's, right-hand man
My jobs to make you all throw up and if you haven't yet something's wrong with you

(One by one, everyone onstage starts grabbing their heads crying. Suddenly unicorns, rats, and dragons are running on and off stage creating chaos.)

Remus: It's unicorn horns and dragon tails
Roman's dull creativity
If you want to make our treaty, oh you'll need a little help from me
From unicorn porn to rats impaled
If you want our land to have peace then don't ignore me

(They all slowly stand up. Rose is clutched onto Patton and Thomas)

Rose and Thomas: What have I been drinking?

Logan: He's lying!

Patton: It isn't us, Remus is doing all this

Virgil: Alright you've got to stop this guy from singing!

(Remus comes over and pushes Virgil down on the ground. Virgil suddenly is wailing his arms around, crying for something to stop.)

Remus: I love how hard you try, it's so cute! Let's resume
Sure
People don't like me much, Princess
But that's only just 'cause I'm honest
Good and bad is all made up nonsense

Roman: Hey I'm gonna whip your butt!

Remus: Do ya promise?
Rose, hear me out here
Recently the love of your life was telling me about how you two were
He said he knew this was tearing you up
And it's affecting all of Lightown
No longer can you keep lying to your people

Patton: But-

Remus: You wanna face facts I've got one
I'm not scared to make you feel sick
If you shared your past with your friends I doubt they'd forgive you

(Rose falls to the floor begging for Remus to stop. Suddenly Remus pulls out a knife, and looks threaten to use it on Virgil and Thomas.)

Remus: Even though everybody sins
Everybody dies
Why deny yourself knowledge, say
Knowledge of yourself

Rose: Go away!

Remus: You don't need to feel ashamed of me
You don't need to be so scared
Rose you're living in a world where you're all dead
Do dance some more, ignore your pain
Let's just all have fun!
Forget we're in a war

(People dressed as dolphins run onstage. Remus grabs one and starts dancing with them.)

Remus: Licking the blowhole of a dolphin

(Remus walks over to Thomas and shoves him into a coffin.)

Remus: Your best bud trapped in a coffin

(Remus grabs Virgil and shoves a lozenge down his throat. Virgil starts choking and Patton runs over to him and tries to get it out)

Remus: Your lover choking on a lozenge

(Remus then grabs Patton and Logan and throws them at the wall)

Remus: Your brothers getting a concussion

(Virgil, Thomas, Roman, Patton, and Logan all disappear and it's just Remus and Rose.)

Remus: These sort of things are only thought in
The mind of a man whose soul is truly rotten
So let all your hopes of heaven be forgotten
Cause your head's not in the gutter, pal
It's in Hell
Hell
Hell
The kind of mind you'd only find in Hell

*Stop music*

(Remus stops making the group see things. The lights come back and we can see the whole group again. Rose falls to the ground crying)

Rose: Leave! Remus leave us alone!

Remus: Rose I-

Rose: What happened? I thought you were with us! I thought you were here for a peace treaty! You're just like Janus!

Virgil: Rose-

Rose: No! I'm not the naive 19-year old I was 4 months ago! I'm not going to risk even more lives being taken by letting you into Lightown! If you want a peace treaty, tell your army to retreat!

Remus: I'm-

Rose: Leave!

(Remus looks down at Rose with a sad smile and walks out of the castle. Rose looks at Virgil, takes the flower out of her hair, and hands it to Virgil. She holds on to Virgil crying into his chest, while Virgil looks around at the other nervously. The lights fade out and the audience can hear gunshots and cries in the distance.)
