Light And Dark: A Musical

Act 2; Scene 3: All I've Ever Known

(Rose's necklace is glowing green, yellow, red, and orange. The lights fade back in, Virgil and Rose are walking together in the palace. They're holding hands, and we can tell Rose isn't her normal self. Virgil has a bag that he's carrying in his free hand)

Virgil: Rose, what's happening?

Rose: What do you mean Virge?

Virgil: You've been getting super emotional, and it seems like you've given up on the army. Rose, we're going to win this war.

Rose: Well, have you seen this Virgil? Look outside!

(A lot of people are crying, and screaming. There's smoke spilling out from the wings onto the stage.)

Virgil: Rose we have to do something, I mean your power is strong enough to do some serious damage now! 

Rose: And risk hurting even more people? I can't do that Virge. What if I make a mistake?  

Virgil: Rose! Listen to me.

*music starts*

(The lights dim a little bit. Virgil pulls Rose into a room that looks like a ballroom and grabs her hands.)

Virgil: I was alone so long
I didn't even know that I was lonely
Out in the cold so long
I didn't even know that I was cold
Turned my collar to the wind
This is how it's always been
All I've ever known is how to hold my own

But now I wanna hold you, too

(Virgil hugs Rose and they start dancing slowly)

Virgil: I take you in my arms
And suddenly there's sunlight all around me
Everything bright and warm
And shining like it never did before
And for a moment I forget
Just how dark and cold it gets
All you've ever known is how to hold your own
All I've ever known is how to hold my own
But now I wanna hold you
Now I wanna hold you
Hold you close
I don't ever wanna have to let you go
Now I wanna hold you, hold you tight
I don't wanna go back to the lonely life

(Rose slowly backs away and tries to walk offstage. Virgil grabs her hand, and she looks back at him. She turns and faces him, but lets go of his hand.)

Rose: I don't know how or why
Or who am I that I should get to hold you
But when I met you I knew you'd change the world
It's like I'd known you all along
I knew you before we met
And I don't even know you yet
All I know is you're someone I have always known

(Rose steps towards Virgil, and he slowly takes her hand.)

Both: All I know is you're someone I have always known
And I don't even know you

(They start slow dancing.) 

Both: Now I wanna hold you, hold you close
I don't wanna ever have to let you go

Rose: Suddenly the sunlight
Bright and warm

(Virgil puts his arms around her waist and lifts Rose up.)

Virgil: Suddenly I'm holding the world in my arms

(Virgil puts Rose down. They start slow dancing again. Virgil dips Rose like in Act 1. Rose slowly lowers herself and Virgil to the ground. Virgil rolls over and lays next to Rose. He grabs the flower out of his bag and puts it in Rose's hair. They lay down and hold hands once again.) 

Rose: Say that you'll hold me forever
Say that the wind won't change on us
Say that we'll stay with each other
And it'll always be like this

Virgil: I'm gonna hold you forever
The wind will never change on us
As long as we stay with each other

Both: Then it will always be like this

(The lights fade out and the couple shares a quick kiss. We see a dark purple glowing from the stage.)
