Light And Dark: A Musical

Act 2; Scene 7: Wait For Me

(Lights fade back up. The music starts. We see Patton, Thomas, Roman, and Logan all standing where Rose was just kidnapped. Suddenly Virgil comes running in with a bag in his arms.) 

Virgil: Hey guys!

Roman: Hey, the lover of the year!
Where's your new girl?

Virgil: Where's Rose?

Thomas: Brother, what do you care?
Go and find your other love somewhere

Virgil: Where is she?

Logan: Why do you want to know?

Virgil: Wherever she is, is where I'll go

Patton: And what if I said she's in Darktown?

Virgil: Darktown?

Roman: You were gone.
She was out looking for you, and Deceit put a spell on her.
She tried to run away, but she wasn't fast enough

Virgil: No...

Logan: So...Just how far would you go for her?

Virgil: To the end of time! To the end of the earth

Patton: You got a ticket for the train?

Virgil: No...?

Thomas: Yeah, I didn't think so
Course there is another way
But well, I'm supposed to say

Virgil: Another way?

Thomas: Through the field, but that ain't easy walking, Virge.
It's not for the sensitive of souls.
So do you really wanna go?

Virgil: With all my heart

Roman: With all your heart?
Well, that's a start

(Roman walks over to Virgil and puts a hand on his shoulder.) 

Roman: How to get to Darktown
You'll have to take the long way there
Through the fighting, under cover of night
Laying low, staying out of sight
There's no compass, brother,  there's no map
Just follow the screaming and the crying
Keep on walking and don't look back
Til you get to Darktown!

(Virgil walks away from Roman and pulls the flower out of his bag.)+

Virgil: Wait for me, I'm coming
Wait, I'm coming with you
Wait for me, I'm coming too
I'm coming too

Logan: The battlefield is high and wide
Guns, bombs, and blood
Walls of iron and concrete
Gaurd dogs howling around the gate

Thomas: Those dogs'll lay down and play dead
If you got the bonus if you got the bread
But if all you have is your own two legs
You best be glad you have them

(Virgil falls to his knees. He pulls out a box from the bag. He opens it, and inside the box is a wedding ring. The Sanders brothers look at each other sadly.) 

Virgil: Wait for me, I'm coming
Wait, I'm coming with you
Wait for me, I'm coming too
I'm coming too

(The Sander brothers all start walking towards Darktown. They start by going through the battlefield. The stage lights go down but not completely dark. Fog starts coming from the wings. Patton and Roman are holding tightly onto each other. Logan, Thomas, and Virgil are walking in front of them.)

Soldier 1: Who are you?

Solder 2: Where do you think you're going?

Soldier 3: Who are you?

Soldier 1: Why are you all alone?

Soldier 2: Who do you think-

Soldier 3: You are?

Soldier 2: Who are you-

Soldier 1: To think that you can walk a road that no one ever walked before?

Virgil: La la la la la la
La la la la la la la

(The Sanders brothers push through the crowd they make it into Darktown. They start walking forward to find Rose. The townsfolk are all in ripped up and dirty clothing. They see the Sanders and start smiling slightly)

All: La la la la la la la
La la la la la

(Virgil steps forward and looks up at the castle)

Patton: Virge be safe you're on the run
If they ask for your name, you don't have one
Don't look anyone here in the eye
This town will try to suck you dry
They'll trick your brain
They'll take your breath
They'll pluck your heart right out of your chest
They'll dress you up in your Sunday best 
And stuff your mouth with cotton!

All: Wait for me
I'm coming!
I'm coming
I'm coming
Wait, I'm coming with you
I'm coming
Wait
Wait I'm coming
I'm coming too
I'm coming!
Wait!

(Virgil starts shaking. Thomas puts his hand on his shoulder. Virgil nods and walks towards the castle. The Sander brothers stay behind, running to hide behind a bush.)

Virgil: I'm coming wait for me

All: Wait!

Virgil: I hear the walls repeating!

All: Wait!

Virgil: The falling of my feet and

All: Wait!

Virgil: It sounds like drumming!

All: Wait!

Virgil: And I am not alone!

All: Wait!

Virgil: I hear the rocks and stones

All: Wait!

(Virgil gets the flower out of his bag and holds it out)

Virgil: Echoing our song!
I'm coming!

(Virgil walks into the castle. The castle opens so the audience can see it. We see Virgil on the bottom floor. Rose and Janus are on the top. Rose is in a wedding dress and Janus is in a tux. We see Janus jump on top of Rose and Rose trying to kick him off. Rose starts screaming louder and louder. Virgil hears the screaming and starts running until guards catch him and take him to a cell. Janus finally gets off of Rose and forces a wedding ring on her finger. He leaves the room and goes offstage. Rose sits there shaking and crying. The music stops.)
