Light And Dark: A Musical

Act 2; Scene 9: Savages (pt 2)

(The lights come back up. Roman and Virgil stop running and collapse to the ground.)

Virgil: No, no, no, no! Roman, Thomas, we can't stop, we have to keep going!

Roman: Virgil, we have to hide or we're going to get caught!

(Virgil starts crying.)

Virgil: Guys...what if she's hurt? What if Deceit did something to her. What if he-

(There's a loud bang again. Virgil starts running. Roman tries to grab him, but trips. Logan and Patton finally catch up to them.) 

Thomas: There you guys are! 

Logan: Where's Virgil?

Roman: He ran off. I tried to stop him. We need to find him and Rose. 

(There's a loud crash. There's a gust of wind, and Patton falls over.)

Patton: Ow! What was that?

(Rose runs over to the Sanders brothers.)

Rose: Guys!

(Rose runs over to the group and gives them all a big hug. Everyone starts crying.)

Patton: Oh, Rose! Are you ok?

(Patton gets a little too excited, Rose visibly flinches. She cowers and covers her hands over her head. Roman kneels down and softly puts his hand on her shoulder. She whimpers quietly.)

Roman: Rose...what did he do to you?

(She holds out her hand and they see the ring. She starts crying. Logan kneels down and sees the rips on her dress.) 

Logan: Rose did he...

Rose: No, he didn't. When everyone received their memories there was one no one else saw, besides me, the other person that helped, and my parents. My father and Janus tied me up to a chair and removed my memories. When Janus got on top of me and forced the ring it reminded me of that moment. 

Thomas: Wait, Remus helped you?

Rose: Yes. I will explain later. Anyway, Remus helped me snap out, and we tried to run off back to you guys. Deceit caught us and you know the rest.

(The music starts. Patton helps Rose stand up.)

Rose: Where's Virgil?

Thomas: He ran off trying to find you. He heard a loud crash and started sprinting.

(Rose's necklace starts glowing yellow and orange. We hear chanting outside the castle.)

Rose: What's going on outside?

Roman: The war has gotten worse, Rose. It's here. 

(Rose walks towards the audience slowly. The chanting gets louder. Rose's necklace starts glowing a very dark yellow and orange.)

Rose: I have to stop this.

Patton: Rose, how? You're trapped, we need to keep you safe!

Rose: I have to save my kingdom. I have to save Virgil.

Logan: Rose, you have to be careful. If you lose the necklace you know what will happen
Unless you somehow learned martial arts while being locked up, which I doubt you have
You won't be able to use your power and therefore can't defend yourself against the soldiers.

Rose: I know Logan, I won't lose it. Now c'mon, let's go stop this.

Thomas: Rose, wait! Please trust us.

(Thomas holds out his hand for Rose. She takes it when we hear a loud cough from Roman. Janus walks onstage with Remus. They stare at Rose for a moment. Janus walks onstage with Remus. They stare at Rose for a moment.)

Janus: There she is!

(Rose turns around and looks at them. Thomas and Roman grab her arms. Remus grabs Janus.)

Remus: Rose, run!

Deceit: Remus let go of me!

(Rose runs off. Virgil runs onstage from the stage Left wings. He has a lamp in his hand, he is searching for Rose. He finds Thomas, Patton, Logan, and Roman. The chants are as louder than ever. The soldiers are now running to find Remus, Rose, and the Sanders brothers. Janus grabs Remus and shoves him on the ground. Jeff, Charles, Megan, and Alex come over to them, and Janus talks to them.)

Janus: This will be the day.
Let's go men!

Virgil: This will be the ending. 
We have to find her!

(Rose runs back onstage. She is surrounded by soldiers, but she is using her powers to get them out of her way.)

Soldiers: We will see them dying in the dust.

Rose: I don't know what I can do, still I know I have to try

Soldiers: Now we make them pay

Virgil: Rose please just be safe

Soldiers: They have killed us all

Rose: Virgil please escape now

(Soldiers have grabbed Rose. She is glowing yellow, orange, and red. The walls are collapsing behind her. Virgil and the rest of the Sanders brothers get separated.)

Soldiers: Now we keep them starving and we leave them out to rust.

Rose: Mother if you can hear me

Soldiers: It's them or us

Rose: Please don't let it be too late

Soldiers: They're just a bunch of filthy, stinking 
Savages, savages
Demons, devils

(Janus grabs Patton and Thomas. He gestures to Megan. Rose is struggling to get free. Virgil tries to save his brothers but Logan yells for him to find Rose.)

Janus: Kill them!

(Virgil runs away from that group. He is searching everywhere for Rose. The chanting gets louder, and drums start playing )

Soldiers: Savages, savages
What are we waiting for
Destroy Lightown 
Until there's not a trace left

Rose: How loud are the drums of war?

Soldiers: We will sound the drums of war

Jeff, Megan, Charles, Alex: Now we sound the drums of war

Soldiers: Savages, savages

(Virgil finds Rose. He runs to her and starts fighting the soldiers grabbing her. Rose is now kicking, trying to help Virgil.)

Remus: Now I see what comes of trying to hurt them

Rose: Is the death of all I love 
Carried in the drumming of war

(Rose screams and everything and everyone collapses. Rose and Virgil fall to the ground by each other, while all the soldiers are far away from the two. The music stops. Everyone in the castle has passed out. The lights dim out but don't fade out.)
