Light And Dark: A Musical

Act 2; Scene 6: Gone, I'm Gone

(The stage lights come back up. Rose has a bag in her hands. We notice her eyes are yellow. Janus is holding Rose's arm. Remus is walking slowly behind them. We hear shouting in the distance. Janus hears and noticeably starts to panic.)

Janus: Love, let's hurry ok?

Rose: Yes Janus.

(Janus climbs into the carriage. Remus closes the door and pulls Rose away.)

Rose: Remus, what are you doing?

Remus: Rose you have to wake up! Can't you see that Deceit is just using you to get what he wants? Power.

Rose: Remus, you're being silly. Now if you excuse me-

(A bunch of green smoke comes out from Remus's hands. Suddenly Rose's eyes aren't yellow anymore. She falls to the ground along with Remus. We can tell they're both exhausted.)

Remus: Rose-

Rose: Remus? What am I doing here?

Remus: Janus used his power to trick you into making a deal with him. You're supposed to leave with him now to Darktown to marry him.

Rose: What? Remus, I have to leave! I need to get back to Virgil.

(Rose's necklace starts to glow orange and dark blue. The yelling from earlier grows louder. We can now see who was yelling. It was Roman, Patton, Logan, and Thomas)

Thomas: Rose what are you doing?

Roman: Can't you guys see, Remus and Janus obviously kidnapped her!

Patton: Give her back!

Logan: Patton that's not how this works...

Rose: Guys, Remus is helping me escape. We need to le-

(Janus comes out of the carriage. He sees everyone. He also notices Rose's eyes aren't glowing anymore.)

Janus: Rose, let's go!

(Time stops for everyone except Rose.)

(music starts)

Rose: Virgil, my heart is yours
Always was and will be
It's my gut I can't ignore
Virgil, I love you
Oh, my heart, it aches to stay

I'll stay

(Time unfreezes. Janus grabs Rose and Remus and shoves them into the carriage. Rose drops the flower from her hair and it falls onto the ground. Janus gets in after and closes the door. There's a loud screech from Rose. The carriage starts moving. Roman and Patton run after it but fall behind. They fall to the ground crying, holding each other. Patton grabs the flower and clutches it to his chest. The lights fade out on everything except for Patton and Logan.)

Logan: Go ahead and lay the blame
Talk of virtue
Talk of sin

Thomas: She never had the choice?
Would she go?
If she did?

Logan: You can have your principles
When you've got a bellyful

Thomas: But lying has a way with you
There's no telling what you're gonna do

Logan and Thomas: When the chips are down
Now that the chips are down
What you gonna do when the chips are down?
Now that the chips are down

(Lights fade out and we hear crying onstage)
