Act 1; Scene 2: Where You Are

*TW: I use the word dyke a lot in this scene. I want to be clear, I hate the word, but it needs to be said for some later parts to make sense. I love you all just the way you are!*

(It's 5 years later. We open up on young Rose with her father, and her mother walking in the village)

Baby Rose: Mommy why can't I talk to the poor people? They're just trying to survive!

Rose's Mother: Because they are beneath us. They could've been rich like us, like your friend Deceit's family! They didn't work hard enough.

Rose's Father: Exactly. You wouldn't want to be like that...Sanders family.

Rose's Mother: Oh for heaven's sake no! Their poor, they're all gay too! The only one that's not gay is Virgil! But he is attracted to girls and boys!

Rose's Father: Such dykes...that's why it's good that your king will be Deceit Hugo!

Baby Rose: But father, Deceit's so annoying, and mean! I'll never be happy with him!

(The royal couple stops in their tracks, looking horrified)

Rose's Father: I will not stand for a princess that doesn't listen to the men in her life!

Rose's Mother: Listen to yourself Rose! You need to be happy with where you are. You there!

Villager: Me?

Rose's Father: Yes you! Let's teach the princess she needs to be happy where she is!

Villager: I've waited my whole life for this day! Men! Follow me!

Rose's Father: Rose, make way, make way
Rose, it's time you knew
Lightown is all you need
The dancers are practicing
They dance to an ancient song

Towns Folk: Who needs a new song?
This old one's all we need

Rose's Father: Our traditions are our mission
And, Rose, there's so much to do
Make way!
Don't trip on the taro root

We share everything we make, we make
We joke and we weave our clothes, aha!
The salesmen come back from our neighbors

(We see there are multiple, poor people holding up signs that all say "equal rights. Rose starts walking over to them until her father comes and pick her up)

Baby Rose: I wanna see...

Rose's Father: Don't walk away
Rose, stay with the rich now
Our people will need a queen
And there you are (every time someone says 'there you are' we see an older Rose dancing in the background)

Rose's Parents: There comes a day
When you're gonna look around
And realize happiness is where you are

(We cut to when Rose turns 8, asking to go play with the Sander boys)

Rose's Father: Consider living alone

Towns Folk: What?

Rose's Father: Consider just that
You play with the Sanders and
That's what'll happen

Rose's Mother: Don't play with the Sanders
They're not sweet like you think
They're all lazy dykes
Especially Roman

Rose's Father: Consider living alone!
If you don't want that to happen
You will wed Deceit Hugo!

Young Rose: I will wed him...
