Act 1; Scene 15: Chant

(It's a couple later, and we see Remus and Janus at upstage right. Rose is walking with a lamp in one hand, and a stick in the other. We see she's going through the dark side of town. There's a lot of people building something we can't see. Everyone's head is down, and no one is looking at the princess in the eye. She gets to Janus's door and knocks. She waits for an answer.)

Remus: Janus...I don't know about this.

Janus: Trust me, she will LOVE this!

*start music here*

(He goes and opens the door, leaving Remus alone.)

Rose: In the coldest time of year,

Here, I fashioned things of steel
Oil drums and anything we need
Then I kept that furnace fed
With the fossils of the dead

(We see Virgil walk onstage, looking through Logan's notebook.)

Virgil: La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la

(He runs offstage quickly, but we can still hear him singing)

Poor townsfolk: Low, keep your head, keep your head low

Virgil: La la la la la la la...

(Remus walks in to see Janus holding Rose's hand and trying to kiss her, while she's struggling to get away. He grabs his hand, and pulls him into a different room)

Remus: Is it finished?

Janus: Not yet.

Remus: Why are you always like this?

(Janus walks back to Rose and leaves Remus once again. The stage lights  dim except for He walks outside to the market to get some food, but he can't afford anything, so he starts stealing food.)

Remus: Looking high and looking low
For some food, so I won't starve
I know that I live with him but, he'll never share
I'm just trying to trust that the plan he's working on
Will shelter me from the wind, the wind, the wind

(Rose finally gets outside, but Janus grabs her again. She looks around and see's the lines of factories, and how many people are starving. The only thing that's giving people light is the factories bright lights.)
