Act 2; Scene 12: Epic III

(Rose looks up at Virgil and Virgil looks down at Rose. She shakes her head quickly. Janus walks away and sits on a chair. Charles and Megan grab Remus and takes him over by Janus. The Sanders brothers are all in a line sitting down. The workers slowly sit down. Virgil is standing up. He is shaking, and visibly nervous. He takes a deep breath. The music starts playing.)

Virgi: King of shadows
King of shades
Deceit is king of Darktown

Janus: Oh, it's about me?

(Everyone looks at Janus with a dirty look. Thomas rolls his eyes and turns back to Virgil.)

Thomas: Go on...

Janus: But he fell in love with someone beautiful
Who walked up above
In the calm village

(Virgil looks over at Logan. Logan nods at him.)

Janus: He fell in love with Remus
Who was running down the street 
And I know how it was because
He was like me
A man in love with someone beautiful
Singing la la la la la la la...
La la la la la la la...

(Janus sits up quickly.)

Janus: Where'd you get that melody?

Virgil: La la la la la la la...

Remus: Let him finish, Janus

Virgil: And you didn't know how
And you didn't know why
But you knew that you wanted to be with him
You were just kids slowly falling in love
It was like he was someone you'd always known
It was like you were holding the world when you held him
Like yours were the arms that the whole world was in
And there were no words for the way that you felt
So you opened your mouth and you started to sing:

(Everyone except Janus, Megan, Charles, Jeff, and Alex starts singing. The townsfolk from outside the castle start looking into the window.)

Virgil: And what has become of the heart of that man
Now that the man is King?

Now that he has everything?The story that nobody knows
Is that for a while, the two were truly in love
See how they look at each other
There is a past, we all now it know
But Janus is scared he will be dethroned
He's grown up believing it is wrong to love another man.
But what he doesn't know is that what he believed
Is no longer true

(Virgil walks over to Janus and Rose. He kneels down and holds Rose's hand.)

Virgil: Where is the treasure inside of your chest?
Where is your pleasure? Where is your youth?
Where is the man with his arms outstretched?
To the boy he loves
With nothing to lose
Singing la la la la la la la...

(Janus has a tear shedding down his face. Rose leans her forehead on Virgil's. Her necklace starts glowing purple.)

Janus: La la la la la la la...

Rose: La la la la la la la...

All: La la la la la la la...

(Jeff and Alex untie Rose and Remus. The lights slowly dim.)
