*A few weeks later*

It's almost Lisa- and, as we found out yesterday- Alexandria's as well. It is September 12; Lisa and Alexandria both have the same birthday, September 19. The thing is, she didn't tell us. I may or may not have been stalking her Instagram- what, I just wanted to find out more about her- when I saw a post from about 2 years ago, when she was 13, that was captioned, "Best. Birthday. Ever!" She posted it on September 19! I then called her mom and asked when her birthday was. She confirmed my suspicion, then said she had to go and hung up. Now I'm here. I decide to go talk to Christina about this.

I walk into her room to see her and Lisa in there, looking at Christina's phone and speaking in hushed voices. I shut the door, but they still don't notice me. I decide to try to hear what they're talking about, but they're so quiet, I don't even know if they can hear themselves. After a minute of awkwardly standing there, I clear my throat to get there attention. Both of them jump and quickly turn around, then breathe a sigh of relief, I guess that it was me.

"What's up, Dani?" Lisa asks.

"Well, I came to talk with Christina, but-" Lisa jumps up and cuts me off.

"I can leave?" She starts walking to the door, but I grab her.

"Wait, it's good that you're here too." She nods and goes and sits back down. "So yesterday I was looking through Alexandria's Instagram-"

"Stalker..." Lisa whispers, but loud enough for me to hear. My face flushes red.

"Shut up, rat. Anyways, I saw something from a couple of years ago about her birthday. I called her mom to confirm, and I was right! But she hasn't told us yet and I don't know why. It's only a week away." Christina thinks for a moment, calculating the day, but Lisa immediately knows.

"Wait, so we have the same birthday?" I nod. "We should do her a surprise party!"

"Wait what about you?" Christina asks.

"It can be a party for both of us, but we can surprise only her with it. I'll ask her to go birthday shopping with me and see if she tells me- if she hasn't already told us all by then- then when you guys are done setting up, text me and I'll come home and then, bam! Surprise!" I nod, getting excited about this.

"She's turning sixteen, too! It'll be her sweet sixteen and your sweet 21! that doesn't have a good ring to it, but whatever! It's gonna be so much fun!"

"Ooh! What if she cries! I love making people cry!" Chris and I look at Lisa kinda weird, so she explains. "Out of happiness, of course. It means they care enough about you to cry for or because of you for a good reason." Christina and I nod in agreement.

"Okay, so tomorrow we are recording our video for this week, then Friday, Lisa, I want you and Alexandria to edit the video. If she doesn't know how to edit, teach her, spend time with her, try to learn more about her. Before we record her song and parts for the album, I want all of us to have had multiple bonding moments with her. I want us to all know her really well because I guarantee once we get into that recording studio, she's gonna get really shy. I want her to be comfortable with us when she sings. We know she does, her mom told us, but she's gonna be doing a cover with eventually. Like, before we record. Got it?"

"Yes, mom," I answer playfully, but truthfully, the thought of quality alone time with Alexandria makes my heart flutter.

"Wait, what about her driver's license?" Lisa asks.

"We'll see if she wants one, and then get her a time slot or whatever. We can also help her study for it. Does that work?" Lisa and I nod.

"Good," Christina says, "Now call a band meeting- including Alexandria- so we can decide what challenge we are doing this week. I don't think Alexandria is ready to sing yet, plus we haven't done a vlog or fun video in a while." Lisa and I nod again and stand up, when Christina tells us to hold on a minute.

"Okay! One last thing, I swear!" Lisa and I look at each other and roll our eyes, but we still listen. "Lisa, I want you to go find Amy and Lauren. Dani, go find Kath and Alexandria. Dani, I think that they are in Alexandria's room. Lisa, I have no idea. But both of y'all tell them to be in the living room in ten. Okay, break!" We all laugh then get up. Lisa and I walk out of her room, but Lisa goes in the direction of the stairs, I walk towards the door nearest to Lauren and I's room, but on the opposite side of the hall. Alexandria's room.

As I get closer, I can feel my heart start to pound, my hands get sweaty, and my breath catches thinking about it. I get to her door and hear her laughter. It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. Her laugh is very full and happy. Like, when she laughs, she means it. Maybe it's not cute to some people, but it is to me. It's very similar to Lauren's laugh, but a bit higher pitched.

I wipe my hands on my pants and take a deep breath. All I'm doing is telling her to come downstairs in 10 minutes. I mean, Kath is with her. It's just like talking to my sister, but we're not related. And she's beautiful. And smart. And kind. And I'm in love with her. I gasp when I realize that. I'm in love.

Okay, Dani. You've been standing here for literally like 5 minutes. You look like a creeper. Just go in there, deliver your message, and get out so you can prepare for when everyone's together.

I shake my head, take another breath, wipe my palms again, and put my hand on the handle. I open the door and open it, taking in the picture. Alexandria is at the head of the bed, her back against the wall. Kathrine is almost next to her facing the door, sitting criss-cross. Both of them are crying. And now both are looking at me as well. Great.

"Umm... Are you guys okay?"

"It's kind of a long story, I'll explain later," Kathrine says. Alexandria shoots her a desperate look, then she looks at me apologetically. "Or not." I look to Alexandria, she shrugs too.

"What she said," Alexandria responds quietly, playing with a string on the comforter on the bed. She looks so beautiful in this lighting. I wish I could get a picture of her, but we haven't gotten to that stage of friendship yet.

"Oh, well, Christina wanted me to, um, tell you guys to be downstairs in ten," I look at my watch then correct myself. "Actually, no, five now."

"Okay!" Kath says, Alexandria nods.

"Kay great!, Um, see you then?" I say awkwardly backing out. I turn around to leave, but trip over a table. I hear them giggling as I shut the door, then Kath says something and Alexandria laughs again. I know I should be embarrassed, but her laugh just makes me feel all happy. I shake my head as I walk towards the stairs to look for Lisa and go downstairs. What have I gotten into?
