the manor was dead, a heavy pain lingered in the air slowly suffocating the occupants. the whole house mourning the loss of its own. the only sound was a seldom sniff as each cried to themselves in the safety of there room each hiding their pain from the other. How could they all come together, when every inch of everything reminded them so vividly of there greatest regret. A regret that has been felt within the confines of there house more times then any would like to admit.
Their glue was gone, dissolved by there inability to save what each loved the most, even if they refused to admit it at the time. but now that he was gone, they would do anything.
Outside in the field, deep down below the surface of the earth surrounded by there other regrets lay the person that always had a smile yet held the greatest pain, the man that was the leader, the friend, the mentor, the protege, the brother, the son, the greatest the world would ever know. took his last breath not that long ago.
but despite the pain, the fear as he took his last breath. His smile stayed in place. Gracing death like an old friend and even then he never said goodbye instead all but a see you later that this was not the end that he would always be there. As he died in the arms of his father, surrounded by his brothers. they couldn't help but smile through there tears along with there fallen comrade. He smiled, he let his last breath as his eyes closed for the last time, the smile still there, smiling because he died doing what he loved, what he believed in, he was at peace. he died happy that after years of sacrifice it all paid off.
years from now when they could once again look back on the memories with a smile, they will realise that his life was something to celebrate not something to hide away from.
His smile that lit up the room, his laugh that echoed the halls, his eyes that sparkled with secrets left untold. He was Nightwing, the acrobat, the circus freak, the gyspsy, the first and last. He no longer walks the earth, instead, he finally takes a well-deserved nap below the earth, yet still watching from up above, still protecting those he loved the most.
And if they listen quietly within the echo of the wind where his last words, his last laugh and despite all the sadness when the wind the blew the house, the home, the family can't help but smile because they know the truth.
