Ace's POV's
"Mahal mo... ako?" she asked in hesitation.
"Yes, " I said, smiling. "I love you."
She blinked, looking like hindi nya alam gagawin nya.
"I love you" Sabi ko ulit, holding her hand to intertwine it to mine. "I Iove so much that sometimes it makes me go crazy."
Looking down sa mga kamay namin, I squeezed her hand bago ako nag pa tuloy. "Hindi ko alam kung kailan kita nagustuhan. Maybe the first time we met." I grinned as the memory came flooding back. "You were so cute back then. You tried to lie but you were so bad, until now."
"Am I?" she asked sheepishly. "Akala ko na master ko na"
"No," I said as I tucked a hair behind her ear. "You were so bad at it."
She laughed as she looked down on her feet before squeezing my hand.
"Promise me you won't lie to me again," I said as I squeezed her hand back.
She was silent. All I could hear was her uneven breathing as her shoulder shook. "I don't like lying actually," confessed nya in a breathless voice. "So, I'll promise I won't lie to you."
"Good," I said as I forced her to look up, wiping the tears that came out as mga mata nya. "You can stop crying. I don't like it when you cry"
She sniffed as she nod her head. "Okay"
"I have a question" I asked, a thought that keeps bothering me for a while.
"Hm?"
"How... can you marry your cousin legally?"
"Oh," Phobe's movement halted for a second as though she wan't expecting my question. "Yung lolo ko at si lola hindi kasal, so basically hindi ko sila ka mag anak."
"I see."
Her eyes become distant after that, like she was recalling a certain memory.
"Do you want to know kung anong nangyare sa kanila?" I asked gently, sensing that she might be thinking about her cousin and uncle.
She whirled her head to look at me, hesitation clear in her eyes before forcing a smile. "Kamusta naman sila?"
"Are you worried about them?"
"Yes, after all, family ko parin sila."
"You call someone a family that abuse and almost kill you?" I asked in a low tone.
"Ace."
"Fine," Sabi ko before letting out a sigh. "They're in jail, waiting for their trial."
"Jail?"
"Yes, after what they did to you, I strongly believe they deserve it."
"Ano naman kaso nila?"
"What else?" I asked as my eyes met hers. "I heard everything that he said through the phone. He was trying to..."
It was horrible. I was glad na tinawagan ko sya that night kasi kung hindi... I wouldn't know what I would do kung mawala sya.
"I'm sorry," she said in a whisper.
"Stop apologizing, it's not your fault," I said, placing my arm around her shoulder gently. She leaned her head sa chest ko before wrapping her arms around my waist, wincing in pain in the process. I slowly rubbed her arm lightly hoping it will ease her pain. "They will get what they deserve. I will take care of everything. Don't worry too much. Mag pa hinga ka lang, okay?"
