The car came to a rather screeching halt making my entire body cringe harshly. I eye Danny with a frown to which he shrugs with a sheepish smile. "Come on," he says and opens his car door before jumping out. I oblige and follow him as well.
We entered the clearing. It was bathed in bright silver moonlight. A small stream trickled nearby, and there were plenty of cabins surrounding us, for the pack to stay. In the middle was a fire, big & bright enough to catch sight of a huge crowd standing together in front of one of the cabins. I assumed this was where the meeting was and I shifted uncomfortably as Danny snuck closer. I stuck closer to him before pulling at his arm.
He looks back at me with furrowed brows. "What?"
"We're late! They're going to see us," I say, eyes wide.
He rolls his eyes, "better late than never," he said and before I could protest he walks away and I followed behind.
As we walked closer, a loud authoritative voice filled my ears, my eyes searched the crowd for the source of the voice. There were more than a few dozens of Rieka pack members scattered in a circle and a few turned their heads upon hearing us approach. We stood behind the crowd and I let out a breath of relief when Danny stood next to me and he gave me a reassuring smile. I smiled up at him, grateful no one had been too perceptive and say anything about us showing up late. I turned my head back to observe the scene, my stomach fluttering. Did we miss everything? Did Emily inform them of the rogues and Elias already?
Everyone formed a semi circle around the cabin and I looked over the man's shoulder in front of me to see Emily standing on the porch, her eyes searching the crowd confusedly. When she called order to silence, everyone immediately settled down. Her eyes flickered to mine and I froze under her intense gaze, I felt my nervousness spike.
"Thank you for coming, everyone. Now that everyone is here," her eyes flickered to me and Danny, "we shall begin the meeting."
"As you all know, we're trying to keep this mostly on the down low. Alpha Talen was murdered 7 moons ago and our pack was destroyed. Everyone knows about the rogues and unfortunately, they are planning a war."
I tried not to tense as I heard murmurs and gasps fall across the pack.
"We don't need to panic, especially when we have bigger things to worry about like food, water, training, and other important things." She sighs deeply before looking over the pack, almost as if she was preparing herself for what was to come. "Elias Blackwell, the hybrid alpha and I have made a plan."
I winced as murmurs and loud voices filled the crowd, some comments were harsh while others were scared and shocked. I looked up to Emily to see her meeting my gaze once again but surprisingly, she let out a loud demand for silence.
