Pride
For all the hulabaloo, about being away at the time
I did actually go to pride this year
Though only realised the night before
So had some dodgy rainbows on my face
Crafted by my little sister,
Then me and Emma,
Hit the streets of reading
Me with my rainbow umbrella
Her with her pride flag she'd stolen from her schools drama department
Though most of the parade had already passed
We managed to get in at the end
Less marching
More walking
Till we got into the festival ground.
Overwhelmed by the noise and bright colours
We retreated to a corner
Tempted to leave early,
"well first I want some pins"
I said
So we wandered from stall to stall.
Soon we began to pick up stickers
"hey, lets see how many we can get"
And so we rushed from stall to stall
Collecting rainbow as we went
Also: Crisps,
Sweets,
Plastic sperm: the whole range
Till we'd enjoyed and explored most of the festivities,
Our feet ached
Our chest's covered with stickers
Some more political then we agreed with
Some didn't even have rainbows on them!
16 each
In total
We counted
As we sipped our hot chocolates at the end of our adventure
Covered in rainbows from head to toe
A contrast to the beige of everyone not here for the festival.
"well,"
I said
"that's our target to beat for next year"
