Burns night at explorers

28 1 4

"Ok so tonight we are doing...."
*a drum roll is pattered on our knees*
"Scottish dancing!"
He says
15 teenagers stare blankly back at him
Dancing!
Swooping, spinning,skipping FAST
To keep up with the ever changing circle
Holding hands with boys
Boys!
Gasping for breaths between laughing
Left rights, in and outs
The secret high five to your friend
As she's swung past you
Wrong hand, right hand
Trying not to be "the lady to be picked up"
Which hand? Your hand!
Sorry my hands, a sweaty hand
Smilies a blur as the circle is always speeding up
STOPPPP, time to go the other way
No such thing as personal space
As the line circles round you
A figure of 8? More like a twisty confusing thing that you never get right
RIGHT!
NO OTHER RIGHT
LEFT
FORWARD BACKWARD,
Finally being on time for once
Ready to go again
Then, the music stops
"Now we are going to do  a different one"

Dancing? Us!
"Maybe it will be fun?"
He says
Fun! We roll our eyes
It's funny how wrong we were.

Note
I have loads of poems in the backlog but this one is one I wrote last night. So very quick turn around. I love how the more you write poems the more you understand how to manipulate the words and the rhythm.
I'm not sure I've ever said but I write "spoken word poetry" so all of my poems are so much easier to read when you speak them out-loud. Or when they are performed. I like performing but the biggest audience I performed to has been 5 and that was not that personal a poem, sorry for this long note.
Anyway I really like this poem and think it captures how I felt at the time.
