Why garderning is better then poetry

(In the form of you guessed it: a poem)

When I walked into your room
I was struck with how much living there was
Plants covered every surface
Big ones, small ones
Green and leafy
A perfect contrast
To the recently fallen snow out side
Which marks our biannual meetings.

When i expressed my admiration
You shrugged modestly
And said that "poetry is way better then gardening"
With this statement, I protest
As gardening you've got to tend to your plants
Every single day
With the Windows closed
And the curtains wide open
So they get the light they need
To do their magic trick
CO2 + H2O + light - glucose
Home cooked energy
Dependant on no one but the sun, air and you

Poetry,
Is written with the curtains closed
And the windows open
The only qualifications being:
Being able to write
And having feelings that need to be spilt
So, all teenagers.

Yes,
Both crafts require love and nurture
To turn that random mix of words
Into Tomatoes and beans

The only plant I have
Is a cactus I've never watered
As I don't have to patience
To mother a thing
Which only thanks you
By growing.

After all this
If you still believe poems are better then plants
Consider this,
Plants save the world
Trying to photosynthesis their way out of the mess we've made
Every plant grown is another second our earth is liveable
Every poem written
Is a piece of paper closer
To us going down in flames

In the end of a world scenario I'm siding with the plants
You wanna stick with poems?
I suppose they are good for one thing:
Kindling.

Notes
I wrote this poem after a visit to my friends house on a snowy day. It doesn't flow the best but I think it proves it's point.
