There are flowers by the zebra crossing
I see them everyday as I walk to the bus stop
Frozen, drooping, slowly dying
Strapped onto a lamp right where,
I was told
A man lay in pain
Hit by a car which drove to fast round the bend
Ironically on the day of "safe drive, stay alive"
A program from school designed to scare us into driving safely
Suffice to say not an easy watch
As they tried to traumatise us into wearing our seatbelts
With police members and family members
Telling their story
And at the end dramatically declaring
"Safe drive,stay alive"
It felt like more of a performance then real life
Then we came home,
Saw the police signs of witness to the crash
Saw the spray paint on the ground where his body lay
The next day
Saw the flowers
Taped on the lamppost
Frozen, dropping, dead
Like the man who'd lost his life
His ordinary life
Seen walking around in a black leather jacket
Because someone had driven too fast
Don't need a theatre show to teach me that lesson
"Safe drive,stay alive"
Notes:
Hey, this weekend got like no homework which is weird for a levels. Also!!! Poetry club has started: last week I read out a poem called Empty, which I don't think is up here and this week I read out: Crushes which isn't here either and also potato juice which is at the beginning of this. It was quite nerve wracking but I do love the performing aspect the way I just get lost in the poem as I read it. Theme for next week is : memories. So will either have to read out an old one or try write a new one. Hope u guys are having a good week :)
