hayley was brought back to the real world when she heard a loud bang sound. shaking her head, hayley looked towards emmett who had slammed his fist onto the cafeteria table. when he lifted his fist back up a dent appeared on the table.

"what. did. you. just. call. her?"

emmett growled, his butterscotch coloured eyes now a deep ebony colour which swam with fury. hayley watched as the boy gulped afraid but he swallowed down his fear and replaced it with a smug smirk.

"i called her a slut. what are you gonna do about it?"

 the boy tainted as he leaned towards emmett who's nostrils flared. before hayley knew it, emmett had picked up the boy by his t-shirt and left him dangling in front of his face.

"you fucking piece of shit!"

emmett roared his baritone voice sending chills through everybody's spines. emmett threw the boy onto the ground where the boy attempted to scramble away from the pissed off bear like man. hayley gasped as she watched emmett raise his fist about to hit the boy.

turning to rosalie, hayley was shocked when she saw that rosalie had no intentions of stopping him instead she just had her arms crossed in front of her chest. a smirk adorning her beautiful pale face. from the corner of her eye, hayley could see the rest of the cullen family spring up from their seat hayley didn't have to look at them properly to know that they were about to make their way over to them.

as emmett brought his fist towards the boys face, hayley stepped in front of his causing emmett to freeze in his tracks, his fist three centimeters away from her face. everyone watched with bated breath as hayley grasped emmett's fist and rubbed her thumbs over his knuckles.

"calm down please emmett."

 she whispered so that only he could hear. emmett breathed in and out heavily before he finally calmed down and glared at the boy one more time.

"never call her that ever again! do you hear me!"

emmett growled through clenched teeth. the boy fearfully nodded before emmett made his way towards his family, rosalie following closely behind him slightly annoyed that emmett wasn't able to do anything.

when they arrived at their table the rest of the cullen siblings immediately flogged the two mates with worried questions and scoldings. edward however was the only one who wasn't saying anything because he was still trying to process what he had just seen. after witnessing what had happened to the poor girl, edward couldn't help but feel sympathy for her because she didn't deserve it.

he could tell how heartbroken she was when she saw the supposed love of her life and her best friend together. that is an expression he never wants to see on her face ever again, he could tell just how in live hayley was with the asshole and he felt even worse for the human girl. she didn't deserve to have her heart ripped out.

"are you alright hales?"

alice asked flashing the human a small smile. hayley nodded flashing a smile of her own. her mates stared at her in suspicion before they finally nodded, jasper knew how she truly felt but didn't comment on it because he knew she wouldn't have wanted him to. edward on the other hand did do something about it.

"hey hayley can i please talk to you for a second? in private."

 he asked as he looked into hayley's eyes. emmett and rosalie growled since they still didn't forgive him from when he pushed her over in the parking lot. they stopped growling when hayley shook her head and then before turning to face the bronze haired vampire who was still waiting for an answer.

"sure."

the two stood up from their spots and made their way out of the cafeteria and into the corridors where it was empty since everyone was either in the cafeteria eating or walking around outside.

"i just wanted to say that i'm sorry for what i did to you in the parking lot."

edward started sincerely as he looked down at the brunette girl. hayley stared at him for a few seconds, searching his eyes for any lies and when she didn't she smiled and pulled him in for a hug.

"no problem edward. why don't we start over?"

she suggested as she tuck her hand out in front of her body. 

"hi my name is hayley swan."

edward chuckled before he copied her movements.

"nice to meet you hayley, i'm edward cullen."

the pair smiled at each other happy that they were able to put the past behind them. as they began to walk back into the noisey cafeteria, hayley felt edward gently grasp her bicep and turn her around.

"and i'm also sorry for what he did to you....ace you didn't deserve it at all."

 edward said solemnly as he watched pain flash though hayley's eyes before she replaced it with a sad smile.

"it doesn't matter. how did you know about ace?"

"i accidentally read your kind. i am truly sorry about that."

"don't worry about it edward like you said it was an accident. now come on let's go back before emmett and rosalie get angry that we've been gone for so long."/

the two walked back to their tables, smiled adorning their faces as they sat down.

"what were you guys talking about? and why are you guys smiling?"

jasper asked his southern accent seeping into his words.

"nothing and we're smiling because we both made up."

edward explained causing alice and jasper to smile whereas emmett and rosalie frowned.

"do you really forgive him love?"

 rosalie curiously asked. hayley nodded as she watched her mates look into each other's eyes both vampires seemed to come to an agreement because they both nodded at each other before they turned to face their "youngest" brother.

"we forgive you too. but just know that if you ever hurt her again, we'll rip you to shreds and then bury your body parts around the world where nobody will be able to find them."

rosalie threatened causing edward to gulp at her protectiveness towards the oldest swan girl. emmett nodded in agreement from his spot beside rosalie.

 edward finally nodded causing rosalie to smile before she began to talk to alice about fashion while jasper and emmett began to talk about sport. this left edward to talk to hayley who he found out to be incredibly hilarious as well as caring for those around her.

"i'm glad we made up."

hayley said. edward nodded in agreement.

"me too."

he replied as they continued on with their conversation until the bell went for their next class.
