subject 1. the president of student council. straight A's from primary, middle until high school. teachers' pet for his grade and attitude. charming, attractive smile that stole the students' hearts, regardless of their gender, age or race. well-known across the town for being their 'hope'.

and let's move on to subject 2. his father passed away when he was little. his mother raised him all by herself. he's the outsider at school. the nerd who loves to read book and be by himself. doesn't talk much. only a few know his existence and fewer know his name.

so what does subject 1 and 2 have to do with each other when they're just like parallel lines that would never meet? well, so this happened on one peaceful evening.

four weeks earlier.

taeil was just walking home from his student council meeting. he didn't take his usual path as it was closed due to renovation. so he took the much smaller, less-crowded way. which were the alleys.

it was cold that day. luckily he had his jacket on. so when he was enjoying his perfect life peacefully, he heard some chatters from the dark alley. of course, being his well-mannered self, he didn't want to eavesdrop.

but he couldn't just ignore the beating and kicking sounds, could he? he's the town's ray of sunshine; he must do what he could to prevent crimes. so he eavesdrops either way.

" come on, nerd. don't lie. give us the money already and get this over with. I don't have all day ."

he saw three tall men standing among a younger boy who was lying against the wall. his lips were bleeding a bit. looks like they've beaten him up. badly.

surprisingly, the boy was wearing their school uniform. he wore a round glasses and he was holding a book. taeil thought for a second. could he be the said nerd doyoung told him the other day ?

and then he recognized the bullies, which apparently were their school's ex students. they dropped out because of too many bad records. they were yoonoh, jungkook and yugyeom.

taeil was shocked. back then, they were friends with the nerd. something must happened that they turned their backs on him.

" money ?" the boy scoffed and flicked his middle finger on them. " you're welcome ."

yoonoh sighed and crouched down to the boy's height. he took the latter's books, cringed and threw them away.

" look at you, buddy. so pathetic. why are you pretending to be so weak? I've missed the old you ."

"don't worry, that one's six feet under ."

" what a shame. you still have your sarcastic remarks and cool side but pretend to be such a nerd. you know, if you didn't betray us, maybe you'll be cooler ."

" and you guys will be cooler if ..." the boy thought for a while before chuckling. " wait, nevermind. you'll never be cool ."

taeil was restraining himself hard from laughing. to be honest, the nerd was actually kinda cool. maybe because he used to be friends with bullies?

but yoonoh on the other hand, wasn't having it. he told jungkook and yugyeom to kick the poor boy. and they did. taeil's eyes widened. this is when he's supposed to step in.

" hey, stop it !"

they turned to the oldest. taeil gulped. their stares were scary to be honest. even the nerd's. shivers were down his spine, but he must act tough.

" wait, isn't he the student council president ?" yugyeom asked, pointing to taeil.

yoonoh scanned him from the bottom to top. taeil sighed in relief. maybe they would be scared of him. or not.
