Continued...
August finally made it to Y/N's apartment building and Y/N had to rush out to get her siblings from her neighbor, who had been cussing them out on how much longer she'd take.
"Ms May, I'm here! I'm so sorry. I got caught up at work and I couldn't find transport and-"
"Y/N I am getting tired of doing you all these favors. The kids come here hungry and it's not like I got much to give." She complained.
"I know, I'm sorry. Here's some money, just to say thank you."
"KJ, Elijah, come on out! Ya sister's here." She yelled as the two tweens came running out.
"Where you been at?" KJ, her 11 year old sister questioned with a hand on her hip.
Y/N considered her a more sassier version of herself. Elijah on the other hand, was just the sweet and really woke one of the three. It fascinated her how much she actually learned from her 14 year old brother everyday.
"Hey sis."
"Hey, hey guys. Imma need y'all to head on up, here's the key. I'm just gonna go get my stuff okay."
"I heard you say you didn't have transport. Who you came here with?"
"KJ, just- just calm down for a minute."
"Let's go Khadijah." Elijah said.
"Uh uh. I wanna see who you here with." She said as she followed Y/N down to the German machine.
(Side note: Y'all know how sassy China Anne McClain was on Daddy's Little Girls? KJ is China reincarnated 😂💀)
August got out the driver's seat to make sure Y/N was good.
"Thanks August." She hastily said as she grabbed her belongings, but was quickly stopped in her tracks.
"Y/N... do you need help?" He sincerely asked.
Y/N scoffed and snatched her arm out of his grip.
"What is it with people and handouts? You giving me a lift doesn't give you the right to meddle in my life. Mind ya business!"
"Is this who you came with? Who you?"KJ's squeaky voice interrupted again.
"KJ! I told you to get inside the house!"
August chuckled at the bubbly character in front of him.
"Hey, I'm August."
"And what business do you have with my sister, you her boyfriend?" She questioned, pulling her lips together.
"What? No! KJ just go, I'll be up in a minute. Damn." Y/N said.
As tired and agitated as she was, she tried holding her laugh in. Meanwhile, August was crackling at her sister.
"Better not be no kissing and touching going on around here!" She warned with her finger in the hair, flipped her long ponytail back and walked up the stairs.
"You gotta go." Y/N said to August.
He took the cracked iPhone 6s out of her hand, used her finger to unlock it and inserted his number.
"I know we got off on the wrong foot but if you ever need anything, I'm here. Don't hesitate to call me shawty. See you around."
"I don't need help! You don't even belong to this side of town. Shouldn't you be somewhere in your mansion or something..." she said shaking her head, talking more to herself than August.
"I'm really not what you're making me out ta be. But you got my number, hit me up. Seriously."
"Whatever." She said before jogging up the stairs to her apartment.
It wasn't much, but it was pretty decent for the three siblings. They only had each other anyway and it was taking a serious toll on Y/N, seeing that she was their only support financially.
"Uh Y/N... this was on the floor when I unlocked the door." Elijah said as he handed her a letter.
She kind of figured what the letter would be about, seeing that the electricity had been cut off. She closed her eyes and held the bridge of her nose.
"Okay... alright. Let's just all sleep together in the living room. I'll get some candles. KJ open the curtain for some light. And y'all go change while I figure out what we gon' eat." Y/N instructed.
She sighed at her current situation. She was definitely struggling but had too much pride. With her mother being an addict and never having known her father, she's always had to boss up and be a mother, father, sister and disciplinary to her siblings.
Getting a job at the sneaker store was the best she could do to take care of her siblings and make sure they stayed in school.
"Y/N, I just wanted to tell you that KJ and I really appreciate everything you do for us. You managed to get us out that hell hole and keep us in school. I swear imma do better to help out. I'll even sell my-"
A tear fell down her cheek. "No, no. All I need you to do is to stay in school. Work hard, keep your grades up and get that scholarship. I'll take care of the rest. Okay?" She softly asked as her brother who was almost towering over her, wiped her tear.
He nodded in response.
"You know, KJ cries every night when you come back late. She really worries about you." Elijah said.
"I don't want y'all worrying about me. We gon' be okay."
