Chapter 17 - A Glimpse of the Future

"It appears as though, I've arrived." Naruto said to himself as he began to make his way up the stairs.

When he opened the door, his sharp sense of smell was assaulted by a wave of foul smells. He winced as the strong odors hit him all at once. 'The future sure does stink.....' he thought to himself as he allowed himself to get used to the new environment. After he closed his eyes for a few seconds to filter out all of the new and unpleasant scents, he reopened his eyes and took a good look around.

There was a stoned pathway that led up to a shrine, the sacred tree, known as the Goshinboku, and in the distance, something that appeared to be a small shop. After taking in his surroundings, he shrugged and began to walk toward the shrine. When he got to the door, he knocked.

"COMING!" he heard what sounded like a little boy, yell. Naruto thought that maybe it was the Souta boy he had saw in the projections the jewel shard showed him.

A few minutes later, Naruto heard footsteps and the door opened, revealing a young boy. He looked about twelve years old with simple black hair. He stared up at him with curiosity. Before Naruto could get a word out, the little boy screamed.

"AAHHHHHHH! HE'S GOING TO ROB US!" he yelled before slamming the door in Naruto's face as he ran back inside.

"Well that wasn't very polite." Naruto said as the door was slammed in his face.

He silently chuckled as the situation reminded him of the times when Tsunade would kick him out of her office. The red head suddenly disappeared from the front door in a swirl of leaves. He reappeared behind the boy who had so rudely, slammed the door in his face a couple of seconds ago.

"Now is that any way to greet a guest?" Naruto said as he stood behind the little boy.

Souta felt his blood run cold as ice at the sound of the voice directly behind him. Meaning that it was coming from inside the house, since he was facing the door. He turned his head around slowly to be met with a 6'1" masked man with long red hair, standing in the middle of his living room. He was wearing a white juban, black ninja pants, and black tabi socks with waraji sandals. His white shirt was tucked his pants and he had weird, dual colored eyes.

"Souta, what's going on!" a feminine voice said.

Both boys turned around and saw Kagome as she came down the stairs. As she reached the final stair, she stopped and gawked at the red head that was currently standing in the living room, next to her brother.

"Yo!" the red head said with a lazy smile and a wave.

The highschooler stared at him for a few moments before she began to sputter in disbelief. "Wha-....How-....WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE?!" she shrieked.

Naruto's face contorted into a mock hurt expression as he placed his hand over his heart. "You wound me, Kagome-chan. And here I thought you would be pleased to see me." he said.

Kagome began to shake her head furiously, her raven locks flailing about and landing on her face. "Nooooo! You're not supposed to be here! This is the rare amount of time I actually have to relax!" she said as she walked up to him.

She turned tried to turn him around and she tried to push him toward the door. She became frustrated, seeing that the tall figure wouldn't move. "I don't know how you got through the well, but I'm sending you back." she declared as she continued to try to move the red head.

Naruto looked at her in amusement as she struggled to move him. He suddenly vanished, causing the girl to stumble forward. As she prepared to hit the ground, face-forward, she felt a pair of arms wrap around her, stopping her mid-fall. Naruto smiled as he picked her up and placed her back on her two feet, in front of him.
