Chapter 20 - The Modern Era

After Kagome and Naruto visited her locker, they had to go to the office to get a guest pass for Naruto. She didn't know how the blonde did it, but he was able to convince the teacher he was a visiting student. It surprised her how it only took them five minutes to process the information before getting his pass. She saw him smirk as they walked out the office and headed towards Kagome's classroom.

Kagome took a deep breath as she entered her first period classroom. Math. As she entered into the classroom, everyone turned to look at the door. The math teacher stopped his writing on the chalk board and turned to see what his class was looking at. His expression turned into a slight scolding one when he saw who it was at his classroom door.

"You're late, Ms. Higurashi." the teacher said firmly.

Kagome laughed nervously. "Eto......gomenasai, Mr. Tamashiro. I had to help my friend get to the office." she said.

"And who are you?" the man said as he turned to the tall blonde who was standing behind his student with her bag in his hand.

The blonde male stepped out from behind Kagome and went to greet the teacher. "Uzumaki Naruto." Naruto introduced himself as he shook the man's hand. "I am visiting student. Higurashi-san will be my school guide for the next three days." he said as he released his hand. "I apologize for keeping Kagome so long. I'll try not to let it happen again."

Kagome and Mr. Tamashiro looked at the blonde in shock. The teacher only stare at the young man in front of him, who's eyes seemed to be wondering the classroom. It was silent for a moment before Mr. Tamashiro had finally snapped out of his stupor.

He turned to Kagome who fidgeted where she stood out of nervousness. "Well, since you were escorting Mr. Uzumaki around, I suppose your tardy can be excused." he said. "However, next time tell me first so that I am aware." he warned. "You may take your seat."

Kagome nodded before going to her assigned desk. As she went to her desk, Mr. Tamashiro turned back to Naruto. "Well, welcome to our school, Mr. Uzumaki. I hope you find our facility to your liking." he said.

"It's pleasure to be here, Mr. Tamashiro." Naruto said with an eye smile before he began to make his way over to Kagome's seat.

Once he got there, he placed her book bag beside her. "I'm pretty sure you're going to need this." he said as he sat on the floor, next to her chair.

He heard her let out a soft 'thank you' as he walked away from her desk. He found an open desk at the back of the classroom and decided to sit there. He took his scroll holder from off his back and placed it on top of the desk before having a seat himself. A couple of moments later, after the teacher had to retake roll call, he began to start the lesson.

As the teacher taught the class, Naruto was reading the math book they were using. He had to admit that it did intrigue him. The math was quite similar to math they had at the Academy, much to his surprise. The only difference was that there were levels to this modern math and mathematical concepts had changed. He wondered what the higher level mathematics looked like.

While he was reading, he noticed the looks he was receiving from the students of the class. He saw mostly girls and some boys stealing glances at him. He knew that they were just curious of him. After all, he couldn't exactly say that he fit in.

After math class, Naruto followed Kagome to her other classes before having lunch. While he slept through some of them, overall, the blonde found the modern school system rather odd. It was interesting yet complicated. Everyone had different schedules and there were three different lunch periods. Even so, Naruto found his day to be quite informative so far. The only place left to visit was the school's library.
