(8 1/2 years later.....)
Seventeen year old Naruto Uzumaki was currently on his way back to Konoha, returning from an ANBU mission assigned to him by the current Rokudaime Hokage, Kakashi Hatake. After Naruto single-handedly ended what would have been a 4th Great Ninja War, he entered into the ANBU black ops and served as a captain for about a year before doing solo missions. He was ANBU operative Kitsune, also know as the "Shadow Fox" (Kage no Kitsune).
Naruto had changed a lot over the years. True to his word, after Hinata died, his father, Kurama (the Kyubi no Yoko), began training him as his successor. During that time, Naruto became adept in the art of fuinjutsu, kenjutsu, and most shinobi arts. In all, the jinchuriki was a SS-class Kage level shinobi and not one to be trifled with.
It was also during this time that Kurama had Naruto study any and every type of subject to gain knowledge about the world, specifically in the area of politics. Because of Kurama's position, he knew Naruto would have to go before the Higher Council due to his succession. He wanted his son to know how to conduct himself and be politically savvy in what was going on in other realms.
During his training, Kurama was shocked at the abilities his son displayed. A week after Hinata was killed, Naruto had unlocked his mother's bloodline, the adamantine chakra chains. Instead of being gold like his mother's, they were red and silver. Kurama was also shocked that his kit had also display a lot of his grandfather's abilities. During his training trip with Jiraiya, the boy had unlocked a dojutsu known as the Rinne-sharigan. He was also able to use wood release.
Kurama concluded that he was able to inherit his father's powers do to him having some of his chakra as well as mating with an Uzumaki, distant cousins of the Senju clan. On top of all this, Kurama was happy at the time he spent with his son training. Not only was the kid intelligent and quick-witted, he was passionate and would do anything for those he considered precious. While he had his mother's spitfire personality, he had his father's calm and calculating demeanor, a perfect blend as Kurama would often say.
Naruto excelled in everything his father taught him and Kurama couldn't be more proud of him. Although Kurama was a little saddened that the boy would throw himself into training to avoid his issues, he understood and felt that it was best that he learn to deal with his inner turmoils on his own and learn from them. He was aware of the hatred that resided in him for Konoha and knew that Hinata's death was a festering wound.
Kurama hoped that one day he would be able to move on and find peace within himself. After everything he went through, he was surprised Naruto wasn't mentally insane. I guess it was through sheer will and resilience that his kit was able to survive his internal torture.
There were some days when they wouldn't train at all in just talk. It was those times that Kurama would talk about his past and what he had experienced over his lifetime, imparting words of wisdom into his son. Those were moments that they both cherished and kept ingrained in their memories.

Flashback..........
(7 months after Naruto left with Jiraiya to train......)
Naruto was lying in his bed, staring at the ceiling. He couldn't sleep. The boy was troubled and shocked at what had been told to him a couple of hours ago. His godfather, Jiraiya of the Sannin. The Toad Sage that had stopped his slaughter against the people of Konoha. The man who had witnessed the Sandaime try to seal his memories. Had done something he didn't expect him to do.
