Chapter 70 - Three Years Later and Her Return

"Congratulations on graduating." a voice resounded through the speakers of the high school as the graduating class exited the building to meet their family and friends to celebrate their graduation.

"Kagome!" a girl called out as she made her way to her friend.

Eighteen year old Kagome Higurashi turned from her conversation with her family and saw her friends walking towards her. "Oh!" Kagome said in acknowledgement.

"Hello, Mrs. Higurashi." Yuka greeted her mother as they halted.

"Congratulations on graduating." Mrs. Higuarshi congratulated the girls as they held their diplomas.

"Everyone was accepted into college." Kagome informed her mother with a smile on her face.

"My, that's wonderful." Mrs. Higurashi said with an eye smile, proud of young ladies in front of her.

"I'm aiming to be an interpreter." Ayumi said.

"I want to be an anchorwoman." Yuka informed.

"Then you need to become Miss Campus first." Eri commented.

A light dispirited expression crossed Kagome's features as she listened to her friends excitedly talk about their future's. He looked at them with a light smile before looking up into the sky. 'It's been three years now.' she thought to herself as she was pulled back into reality by the light banter of her friends.

After her friend's departure, Kagome and her family exited the school premises and made their way back to their home. As they walked, the high school graduate became lost in thought. She had done it. When she returned, she was able to catch up in her studies and graduate with her year. Now that schooling was no longer a requirement, the miko was lost about what she wanted to do with her life. Of she thought about college and pursuing a career, but no matter how much she thought about her future, his image would always pop up in her mind.

Once they were in the house, Kagome told her mother that she was going to freshen up and change out of her uniform. Mrs. Higurashi nodded at her and told her that she would begin dinner in a few minutes. After her shower, Kagome changed into a purple skirt, a red top, and a light pink blouse. After drying her hair, she went back downstairs and told her family that she would be back in a few. They responded with an okay and exchanged looks of concern as the door closed.

Kagome silently made her way to the old storage that held the remains of the Bone Eater's well. A gentle wind brushed through her dark locks as she entered the building. She walked down the stairs and halted at the well. She looked down the black hole with a downcast expression. 'My job was done.....' Kagome thought to herself as she stared at the well. 'The reason why I was sent through the well was because of the jewel...the reason why I kept coming was because of the jewel.' she continued to muse to herself. 'And after I wish for it to disappear, my job was done.....and I no longer needed to go through the well. I'm supposed to go back to live and my own world.' she reasoned.

She brought her hands to the now smooth wood of the well, looking down the hole as if she were expecting to see something. 'But....' she started as she gripped the wood. 'A world without you....Inuyasha.....' she thought as she closed her eyes. 'I want....to see you!' she proclaimed in her heart. After a couple moments of silence, a gentle breeze brushed her skin, causing the miko to open her eyes.

She stood in disbelief as the breeze continued blow in her face. As she stared into the well in complete shock, Mrs. Higurashi had just arrived to the storage house. The older woman peaked into the building before standing in front of the door way.

"Kagome?" Mrs. Higurashi called out in concern. She began to walk down the stairs toward her daughter who seemed to be entranced by something in the well. "What's wrong?" she asked as she stopped at the bottom of the stairs.
