(Sorry for the late update. I got caught up with work and my boss is traveling so it’s too much pressure, anyways~

The near death experiences are about to shift the character's entire relationship and future goals. Some good and some bad :D I feel this book is nearing its end though.

Pein 

It was night time and you got off the bed wincing from the pain in your chest then stood up heading out the room. You limped slightly down the corridor from all the injuries in your body and reached Nagato's room.

You pushed open the door seeing his sleeping form. He was wrapped up in bandages as well but the fall must've affected him the most, since his body was less sturdy than yours.

You sat on the side of his bed and moved the hair away from his face, softly passing your fingers through his red strands revealing his calm peaceful expression. You crawled next to him passing both your hands in his hair making him stir slightly and smile at the soft touches.
He opened his eyes but his expression changed seeing it was you and he looked away sadly. You laid by him so he would look at you and passed your fingers through his hair once more. 
"Nagato" you called to him but you didn't know what to say. Apologies were far off at this point. So you just stared at each other blankly as you played with his hair.
He closed his eyes enjoying your touches then opened them once more "y/n"
"Yes" you said hopefully with a smile
"You are fired from the Akatsuki"
You sat up quickly looking at him shocked "WHAT!?"
He gave a blank look "don’t get me wrong...I still love you...but I refuse to work with you anymore, for the sake of our relationship" he said then continued "Actually I loathe working with you"
You gave him a hurt look and looked down at your hands playing with the edge of the blanket. He grabbed your hands in his rubbing his thumbs over your skin softly.
"I’m sorry Nagato… I always screw up. I can’t say you never hurt me, but you always find it in your heart to forgive an over emotional failure like me"
He caressed your face "I want your stuff packed by tomorrow morning, and your cloak and ring handed over to Konan"  
You were devastated and he was completely taking this too lightly but you couldn't complain because he wasn’t wrong. If you were him, you would’ve done worse.
"What will i do afterwards?"
He rolled over on to his back looking at the ceiling, closing his eye tight from the pain in his back "You need to move far away from here. I don’t think we can see each other for quite some time" he said
You felt tears stream down your cheeks looking at him in disbelief. He pulled you to his chest “shhh don’t cry. I’m doing this for you”

“You hate me don’t you” you sobbed

he frowned “Y/N F/N!! YOU REALLY THINK I'm THAT SHALLOW!!” he yelled then winced since the yelling hurt his chest “I said I'm doing this for you… I want you packed and gone by tomorrow morning please… or else you will be forced into a mission. He will come for you” He said holding your wrists tightly making you stop your waterworks.

“He?....who? what mission?....Konan said the same thing. What are you and Konan talking about?”

He looked away “y/n... I’m about to tell you something only Konan and I know. But you need to promise to leave afterwards… I was planning on telling you this back in the land of snow but I hesitated because you were already sad. I wanted to break up with you and let you run away and hate me to avoid what’s coming… but I'm not sure I could do that to you” He tried to sit up and you helped him.

“The Akatsuki is an organization who takes its orders from a certain man. I merely take those orders and pass them on to the members, making sure the missions go smoothly, with no interruptions. That man is coming tomorrow to give me the files according to my members count. He thought you were a good replacement to Orochimaru since he needed ten members. But I don’t want you to interfere with this man because I don’t trust him. I need someone to watch him from afar. To warn me if he is keeping his promise or not”
