Brynn's POV
The Next Day
-
I crossed the last thing off of my To-Do list before I crumbled it up and tossed it into the trash, and put my pen into the junk drawer that was in the kitchen.
Dad wouldn't be very happy of the person I've become.
Anyway, thinking about my step dad is just a normal everyday thing I do. My mom told me this morning that she had some news to tell us and that it's good news.
So, I get good news from my mom and I'm about to go to lunch with a cute guy- oh speaking of him, there is somebody knocking on the door.
I slid on my vans and answered the door.
What do you know? It's Ricky.
I let him into the house.
"Hey, Ricky" I said. He grinned.
"Hey Brynn, you ready to go?" He asked.
"Yup, just remember that I have to be back by two thirty" I said.
"Okay, how do wings sound for lunch? There's a really good wing place up the road" He asked as we walked out of the house, I locked the deadbolt and we walked to his car.
"Sounds good to me" I smiled. I love wings.
"So, if you don't mind me asking, how come you have to be back at such a specific time everyday?" He asked as we got into his car.
"Uh, well, I have to take care of my younger siblings" I told him as we drove onto the expressway to get to the wing place Ricky was talking about.
"How come? Sorry, if that's too personal" he asked.
"My mom has cancer and my dad was killed in Afghanistan" I replied, quietly.
"What type of cancer does your mom have?" He asked.
"Stage four breast cancer, it's been very touch and go this past year and a half. They're not sure if she's gonna beat this or if she has much longer left" I said. The rest of the car ride was comfortable silent, the soft sounds of AFI was playing quietly.
-
We just got to the wing place and got sat at our table. We just got our drinks too.
"So, how old are you?" Ricky asked.
"Twenty-Five, you?" I asked.
"Twenty-Six, when's your birthday?" He asked.
"September first, yours?" I asked.
"Same" he said.
"Really?" I asked.
"Really, really. So, anything interesting about you?" He asked, trying his best to not sound rude.
"Well, I'm a recovering drug addict, I've been clean for about five years now. Uh, I had a kid a few months after my step dad died, but my son's father took him because I was still on drugs" I told him.
"Do you still have like urges to use?" He asked as the waitress brought us our food.
"Sometimes, but I have to stay clean for my mom, my step dad, and my little brothers and sister, and even though I'm not allowed to be in my son's life, I got clean just for him, but his dad still wouldn't let me have him for at least a couple hours a week or a month or a year or something" I told him.
"What all were you on?" He asked.
"Anything I can get my hands on" I told him as our food came out.
-
"-It was nice hanging out with you, I wanna do this another time" Ricky said as he pulled me into a tight embrace.
"I do too, I gotta go, I'm not allowed to have boys here, because the last time I brought a boy over, I got pregnant in my parents' bed" I chuckled nervously.
"Well, tell me how your mom is, text me" he said before I went inside.
Now to wait for the munchkins to get home.

Ricky's POV
-
I really do want to see her again, we sat at the restaurant until two o'clock, just playing around and learning about each other. I feel like there's more that's hidden in that mysterious personality.
I wanna know everything about her. I wanna help her get her little boy back. I just wanna be there for her.
I don't why I like her so much. I've only known her for a day, I wasn't even like this with my past girlfriends, but then again, they were annoying as hell.
Although, Brynn and I are almost polar opposites, I can see us together.
