Chapter Five

"You know you don't have to stay down here with me right?" I say to Sam. He's sitting cross-legged in front of the bars and we're playing a board game that I've been losing at for the last half hour. He's been coming down here at every mealtime because he convinced the warrior wolves to let him bring me food and water instead of him. It's super nice of him but I don't want him to waste his time on me. I still don't know my fate.

It's been two days and Jordan hasn't come back. Either he can't get a hold of George or he has and his Beta convinced him that I'm still a criminal that deserves death. I'm guessing the latter.

"I don't have to but I want to. You shouldn't be down here." He says moving a piece of the game to the other side of the board. I put my arm through the bars and place my piece next to his. "Daniel would beg the differ." I retaliate. He rolls his eyes, "Daniel is an asshole, the only reason he's the beta is that his father made Jordan's dad promise to give him the title. Jordan was going to choose his cousin." Sam says with annoyance.

I nod. "Who's his cousin?" I ask out of curiosity.

"Kaleb, he's no longer a part of this pack. He left to join his mate's pack. "Where is your mate?" I ask abruptly. Sam is a full-breed werewolf, he should have a mate. "Uhhhh, when I find him, I'll let you know." He says moving another piece from his side of the board.

'Him' I think to myself. I'm not an expert on mates but Sam said he hasn't found 'him' can only mean that Sam is gay. I obviously knew but this just reassures me.

"Have you looked?" I look into his eyes.

"The thing is, if a full-breed wolf hasn't found their mate by the time they're eighteen, they don't get marked which then lets the bond fade. By a certain age, the bond will cease to exist. So, when I turned twenty-one, I no longer had to urge  to go out and find my mate." He says emotionless.

It must suck to not find the one person that was designed just for you. Yet, he doesn't seem fazed by it. Maybe he is but he just doesn't show it.

"Where'd you get your scar?" I ask looking down at it. It's not unpleasant to look at, it gives him an edgier look.

"There was an attack, I was a warrior wolf so naturally I was protecting our pack but the rogue that I was fighting clawed at my neck. I almost bled out. After I healed, Jordan told me that I could no longer be a warrior wolf." He says placing his hand on the scar.

He gives me a reassuring smile which tells me that my face is probably giving off a worried expression. I relax and move one of my pieces on the board. I have no clue what the premise of this game is but I sure am bored of it. Fitting name, board game.

"Well well well, this is a sight." Daniel's voice echos through the room. I groan internally. Sam stands up off the floor and turns to face Daniel. He's taller than Daniel. "Why are you down here?" Sam snaps at him. Daniel growls, "Visiting the prisoner. Be careful, don't fall in love now Sammy, I hear he kills the people he loves." Daniel's words behave like daggers to my heart.

I didn't kill my family.

"You and I both know that's not true. It's only a matter of time until your lies will catch up to you." Sam cautioned.

"Leave." Daniel barks at him.

Sam ignores him and turns to me, "I'll see you at dinner." He winks at me and I smile. Something about him makes me feel warm and welcomed. When he walks out I frown knowing that I won't see him for another six hours. "So, you plan to make a damaged boy fall in love with you and convince Jordan to let you go?" Daniel asks with venom like hatred.
