Chapter Twenty - Let Me Save You
(*Excuse any errors)
-Blaine-
Jordan stirs awake slowly. He fell asleep as soon as we got back to the hotel. Not a lot of food options were open so he just got a salad from the diner. I could barely stomach my burger so I took it to go.
I couldn't fall asleep even though I did try hard. I ran out of sheep to count at around four in the morning so I decided to stare blankly at the ceiling. I can hear the sound of snow hitting the balcony which means today is going to be pretty cold.
Jordan stretched and his hand hits my arm gently. His eyes shoot open and he looks around as if someone was breaking in. He's always on high alert for some reason, I don't mind it though, I feel safe when I'm around him.
"Just me," I mumbled without looking away from the ceiling. He yawns and slides out of the bed, "Morning." He murmurs, his voice is low and deep. It sounds like a hot knife through a cold stick of butter. Pleasant to the ear but also extremely frustrating.
"Did you sleep?" He asks pulling out a grey travel bag from his suitcase. I slide out of the bed and pull my toothpaste and toothbrush out of the small pocket of my suitcase. "I couldn't," I mumble before walking to the bathroom.
Silently, we both brush our teeth and wash our faces. Jordan took his time to do a very extensive skin care routine while I simply used the hotel soap. Maybe I should be more like him, my skin is fine but his skin is porcelain smooth besides the slight stubble he has coming in.
I throw my coat on and run my hands through my hair. When I get back, I need a haircut. My hair is at an awkward length and I can't keep it away from my face anymore. Jordan grabs his keys and opens the door for me, the cold slaps me in the face and I shiver.
From here, I can see cars driving by and two older people walking towards a thrift store. The snow is not as unbearable as I thought it would be, it's quite scenic.
"Are you hungry?" Jordan asks as we walk to the car. "Not really...are you?" I ask as I walk towards the passenger's side. "I'll eat later. Where do you want to go?" He asks as he starts the car. Home.
"There's a kitchen at the hotel, let's go to the market. There aren't a lot of food options for vegetarians in this town." I say with a smile. This is Jordan's vacation in I don't know how long, it would be selfish of me to drag him into doing depressing shit all day.
From what I can remember, the market was my mom's favorite place to go. She would bring home fresh fruits and vegetables every day. If I can remember properly, it's on about a fifteen-minute drive from this road.
Jordan nods and pulls out of the parking lot. I stare out of the window, Christmas decorations have been up on the lamp posts and some shops have their Christmas lights on. The park comes in to view, people are walking their dogs and some of them are jogging alongside the snowy grass fields. Red, blue, green, and yellow lights twinkle in the branches of cutely shaped bushes. One of them is a reindeer.
From the outside, this town will look completely innocent and loving. On the contrary, the people who ran this town are evil and they don't care about anything other than money and power. It's no wonder that they criminalized an eleven-year-old boy without putting in the proper investigation.
"I don't know where I'm going...Blaine, do you mind?" Jordan speaks up, interrupting my train of thought. "Oh yeah." I turn my attention to the screen and type the name of the market. It loads up quickly and I click on the directions. "Thanks," Jordan mumbles without taking his eyes off of the road.
