Chapter Eighteen - Let Me Save You
-Jordan-
"Sorry to interrupt Alpha, Blaine fainted," Farah says running up to the table. I quickly get up and follow her out to the backyard. A crowd of people hover over him like vultures around a carcass. Anger courses throw my body and I growl, they all step away and look in my direction. They bow their head in respect.
I kneel next to him and pick his head up off the floor. His skin is ghastly pale and his heartbeat is slow. "Get Andrew," I order Farah. She runs back into the house and the pack members from the dining room slowly trickle out to see what is happening. I slide my arm under his body and pick him up carefully. He's concerningly light.
"Is he okay?" Hunter says running up to me. He better be.
"Not sure. Could you ask Helena and Cohen if they cooked with anything new?" I ask him hurriedly as I carry Blaine's limp body to the other side of the house. He nods before running back to the foyer. Andrew runs towards me from the dining room, "First room is free." He says motioning to the clinic.
I set Blaine down on the bed and step aside to let Andrew do his job. He grabs some scissors and cuts Blaine's sweater down the middle to expose his chest. I anxiously begin to pick at the skin around my cuticles. Andrew hooks the IV tube to his arm and lowers the bed.
Andrew finishes with his check-ups and turns to me, "He's severely dehydrated and malnourished. I've started him on intravenous therapy, when he wakes up, he'll need to drink lots of fluid and a hearty meal."
"Hey, Helena and Cohen didn't use anything new. The young woman with the short black hair informed me that he only ate grapes at breakfast." Hunter bursts in. Out of an entire feast, he only ate grapes?! I know he hasn't had an appetite in some time but I didn't realize that he wasn't eating at all.
"Is he okay?" Hunter asks looking over to Blaine. "Yeah, he is. Thanks." I say walking over to the side of the bed. Hunter walks over to the opposite side and stares down at him. "Didn't know werewolves could have tattoos..." He says with confusion.
I chuckle, "He's half-breed."
"Oh cool, that's why he smells like that." He nods and I remain quiet.
"What do you think it is ?" He asks as he examines the tattoo on Blaine's ribs. I tilt my head to the side and stare at it quizzically. "Some kind of dragon...dinosaur, bird-like thing," I say with a shrug. "Hm, what do you think it means?" He asks looking up at me. It means that Blaine had too much time on his hands.
"I don't know. Maybe he likes dragons."
"Cool. Well, I'll go get set up in my room. Let me know if there's anything I can help you with." He consoled. "Thanks," I mumble and he walks out.
I sigh and pull up a chair next to him. When he wakes up, I want him to see that I'm here for him. I'll always be here for him. I rest my head on the side of the bed. Tomorrow is the official ceremony to induct Hunter as beta and after that, I'm free of my Alpha duties. My dad has suggested that I purge the private cellar of any alcohol, I don't know how I feel about that. Getting rid of it all at once is not how I planned on stopping.
"Hey Son, how is he?" My dad walks in and closes the door behind him. Without lifting my head I shrug, "He's dehydrated and he's starving himself."
He walks over to me and places a comforting hand on my shoulders, "Are you okay?"
"You and I both know the answer to that question Dad," I answer dryly. He sighs, "Does this make you want to drink?" He questions. "No, I want to be here when he wakes up," I answer honestly. "Son, think about what you just said and apply it to non-emergency situations." He squeezes my shoulder gently before leaving the room. I sigh and close my eyes.
