Chapter Twenty-One - Let Me Save You
(*Excuse any errors)
-Blaine-
The sun has begun to set, it leaves a beautiful gradient of yellows, reds, and pinks on the clouds that hover over this wretched place. It wasn't always that awful, as a kid, I use to think that this was the most beautiful place on earth. Granted I had never even stepped foot out of city lines.
My young and impressionable heart believed that these little homes, shops, and fields of lavender were the only things that I needed to be happy. My mother surely sold the dream well, she would tell me stories upon stories of how she grew up here and all of the adventures that she'd had.
At eleven, I was already planning what my life would be like living in this little town. I meet the love of my life at school, we'd have a courthouse ceremony and a beautiful reception at Haven Park, we would buy a home not far from my parents, and we would live without any worries at all.
My perfect fairytale made a lot of sense in my pre-teen brain. In reality, I was only selling my self short, there is more out in the world than this place. There are fields of roses, lilies, daisies, sunflowers, and more behind these city lines yet, I was ready to settle for just lavenders.
"Blaine? We're here." Jordan's voice breaks through my reminiscent daydream. I look away from the sky and scan my surroundings. Something doesn't feel right, these uniformed homes look too familiar.
The one painted green, the one painted in white, even the one with the funky yellow color. Realization and panic sets in when I realize that I'm in my old neighborhood.
"Jordan?" My voice shakes with fear as I cower back in the seat. "What's wrong?" He asks placing a hand on my shoulder gently. "Why are we here?" I whisper in fear that someone might hear me.
"Shit. I'm sorry that's the address the woman at the market gave me. Is this where you use to live?" He asks with worry laced in his voice. I try to speak but my words melt together and form a lump in my throat so I nod.
"Blaine I'm so sorry, we'll leave," He begins and I hear him shuffle around.
Part of me wanted to see my old house but I'm also afraid of how it will affect me. Maybe seeing it and getting a chance to say goodbye will help me in moving on. Impossible, it'll only make things worse.
Wrong, if you leave now, you'll regret it. You've come this far.
It doesn't matter, if you turn away now, you won't feel this crippling fear crawling through your body.
"No," I mumble softly. The car jerks as Jordan slams his foot on the brake. "We've come this far...right?" My voice is unrecognizable as it is riddled with a cocktail of fear and anxiety.
"Blaine, whatever you choose to do I'll be there. I can't tell you what decision to make, all I can do is be there if anything happens." Jordan replies with sincerity.
I nod and look around, my house is not far from here if I remember correctly. It's past the green-colored house with the weird-looking mailbox. It's been twelve years so I don't know if it looks different or not.
Jordan hops out of the car and walks over to my side. He opens the door for me and holds his hand out. With hesitation, I grab his hand and hop out of the car. The slow-melting snow under our feet makes crunching noises as we walk around the car and onto the sidewalk.
I remember walking along these sidewalks on days when I would take the bus instead of being picked up. The neighbors would nosily look out of their windows to see who was walking around.
