Chapter Eleven - Let Me Save You

(*Excuse any errors)

-Blaine-

Funerals allow us to say a proper goodbye to our loved ones. It brings people together to not only mourn the death of an individual but to celebrate their life.

Daniel L. Hardin

Sunrise, 03/12/1995 - Sunset, 11/21/2019

No one is actually dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away.

"Daniel Hardin was the son of Emily Jane Hardin and Porter Hardin. He grew up on the Northwood territory and trained alongside the warriors in order to take the role of Beta at the age of eighteen. He enjoyed the training, hunting, and volunteering at local shelters. Daniel suffered a lot but he never let his head fall, after his mother and father's death, he became determined to protect those he loved...." Andrew continued, his voice is steady and clear.

The pitter-patter of snow hitting the pavilion offered a satisfying tune as Andrew spoke. Some of the pack members opted for black umbrellas to shield them from the icy snow. Others, like myself, allowed the snow to get embed its self into our hair.

Jordan and Sam are standing next to the open casket with their heads hung low. Jordan is wearing black sunglasses, I'm guessing because the eyes are the windows to the souls and he doesn't want people to see how broken his is.

Sam has been staring at me since the short drive to the burial site but I'm choosing to brush him off. I have yet to confront him about his kidnapping but Jordan said enough.

Daniel's face is pale, his thick dark lashes are the only contrast on his face. His hands are cross over his stomach and he's wearing a ring on his forefinger. It's gold and there's an engraving on it.
The black casket fits him well, I was surprised to see how fast it god here. Usually, people have funerals at least a week after but we're having his two days after his death.

Charlotte and Helena are standing next to me. Charlotte is wearing a silky long sleeve black dress with black pumps. An oversized men's coat is hanging over her shoulders. It must be her mate's. She has a headband with a lace veil attached to it. Her hair is bone straight.

Helena, on the other hand, is wearing an all-black pantsuit with black heels. Her mate is standing on her right, he's holding her hand comfortingly.

I didn't get any sleep last night. I kept thinking about what Jordan revealed to me last night. It's all confusing to me, why would he kidnap Sam if he's his mate? Wouldn't Sam willingly go with him? Why was his mate part of the rogue pack that attacked us?
Questions swirled around in my head all night and prevented me from closing my eyes.

Daniel and Jordan were right, Sam and I would have never worked. I had hoped that our time together wouldn't be short-lived but there's nothing I can do.

"Jordan would like to say a few words..." Andrew finishes and steps aside. Jordan walks over to the podium, his body is stiff and he has his hands in his pocket. He clears his throat, "When we were twelve, I wanted to give up on training. I was tired of it and I was not as good as the others. Daniel made sure to knock on my door every morning to drag me to training and if it wasn't for that, my dad would probably still been your Alpha. Daniel gave me a headache almost every day but he had good intentions. He cared. After my mate died, he was there for me, he listened, and he allowed me to grieve properly. He was like the brother I never had and I wouldn't have exchanged that for anything else. As Daniel always said, "When people die, we allow them to live through our memories." So, with that being said, let's allow Daniel to live on through our memories. Rest easy Dan." He finishes before walking back to where he stood before. His face is expressionless but I know he's hurting. Who wouldn't be?
