Leni continues to stay beside Bongbong for the following days, she always look after him and assisted him during this tough times. In return, Bongbong make sure that she's comfortable in his hometown, he knew it's been a long time since she went in Ilocos.
Everyone observed how close Leni and Bongbong is but nobody dared to ask them what's the real score between them. Two days before the interment, other family friends came most are from Metro Manila. Maritoni, one of the guests sat beside Bongbong and chatted away.
Leni came back from their room upstairs with a polo shirt on her hand, she excused herself as she saw Bongbong talking to someone. "Excuse me po. Mahal, palit ka na muna ng damit." She handed him the shirt.
He got the shirt and stood up, "Thanks babe."
"Oh are you together again?" Maritoni beamed at them.
Leni blushed instantly. "Ayy um Tita—"
"Actually Tita we're not together." Bongbong answered. "But I'm so thankful that she's here, right Lens?"
Leni forced a smile.
"Ohh I thought you're together again. You look good together eh." Maritoni said.
"Thank you Tita but we're not yet there. Besides we're all busy right now. We're just enjoying each other's company." Bongbong added. "Excuse us Tita, I'm just gonna change upstairs."
Leni was speechless for a moment, she didn't know how to properly react. She didn't expect those words from him. She thought they're already back in each other's arms but she was wrong, they're not on the same page.
"Are you okay?" He asked bringing her back to reality.
"Ha? Um yeah yeah. Sige na bihis kana." She forced a smile. She sat on the foot of their bed and processed everything he said a while back.
"What's bothering you?" He asked again after seeing her looking blankly at the wall.
She just looked at him now half naked as he wasn't finished changing. She just shook her head. He bend down and kissed her forehead then her nose, "You can tell me anything babe." And gave her a peck on the lips.
She cupped his face as they continued kissing each other until he made her lie down their bed. He went on top of her and parted away her legs so that he can make her feel his bulge as he started to dry hump her.
He was about to unclasp the hooks of her bra when she suddenly remembered his stand regarding their relationship. She halted. "What's wrong?" He asked and gave her a peck on the lips.
"What's this for you, Bong?" She asked. He frowned. "Ito, itong ginagawa natin. Ano ba to para sa'yo? Are you settling yourself with me? Ano? Tayo ba or ano ba to, Bong?" She stammered. She find it painful to even ask.
He was silent for a moment. He removed himself from top of her and reside beside her. They were quietly looking at the ceiling. "I don't know." He uttered after a while. "I'm not sure either. I'm sorry, Lens."
She closed her eyes and exhaled heavily, it's more painful than she thought. She wanted to shout and cursed him, she wanted to cry so badly due to the pain he's causing her right now but she just can't, she doesn't know if she still has the energy to do it. She feels like all her energy got sucked out after hearing him say those words of uncertainty.
He held her hand, "I'm sorry for causing all this confusion."
She didn't open her eyes yet but she just gave him a nod as a response. A lone tear fell from her eye.
"I'm sorry, Lens." He uttered.
She just nodded again. Then silence occurred once again.
"I'm leaving." She uttered after a while.
"Ha?" He frowned.
"I have a conference to attend to. In Australia." She responded as she stood up and wore back her blouse.
"So di ka aattend ng libing?" He asked painfully.
She just shook her head.
He sighed and just respected her decision. "Mommy will understand." He almost whispered.
She nodded and started to pack her things quietly. He stood up and wore back his shirt then he sat down at the foot of their bed again watching her sorting her things out.
"When are you coming back?" He asked.
"Last week of the month." She told him without looking at him.
He nodded, "Can I wait for you?"
She stopped and looked at him, "Para saan pa?"
He held both of her hands and kissed the back of it, "Let's figure things out when you come back."
She withdrew her hands from his grip and flashed a weak smile, "Wag na. Let's stop right here."
"But Lens—"
"Please don't." She cut him off, another tear fell from her eye. "Let's not give each other false hope again."
He just nodded sadly, "If that's what you want."
She nodded and bowed her head.
He closed in and kissed her forehead, "Please be safe."
