When the pillars of light shot up from the city beneath the castle, Fuyumi knew something was wrong.
She was in her room, clothed in a simple dress, lounging in one of her chairs as she read a book. Her room was small, yet simple. She was moved to it when her father lost faith in her as the heir and moved to Natsuo, then Shoto.
But the room had a window that gave a direct view to Ostus.
When Fuyumi was reading, she caught a glimpse of something orange shoot out of the sky, then yellow, then green, then purple, and then blue. The princess set her book down on the chair and crept over to her window. She spread the curtains out further, gazing at the city surrounding the castle. Her eyes shot back and forth through the many squares of Ostus, watching as beam after beam was created.
"What the..."
Fuyumi lifted the front part of her dress up and raced out of her room, bursting through the door to make her way to the throne room. Windows lined up against the walls, letting the bright sunlight in. Each time the princess passed a window, she noticed another beam. They only stayed up for a short moment before disappearing. Fuyumi couldn't see the rest of Ostus that circled around the castle, but she suspected that the beams were continuing in every square.
During her march to the throne room, she heard another voice. "Did you see them too?"
"The beams?"
"Yeah, what else?" the prince asked, joining his sister. "Do you think someone is telling father?"
"Maybe, but it depends on if they reached him yet."
"Do you know where he is?"
"I'm not sure, but he's most likely there."
Natsuo pursed his lips, hurrying to keep up with his sister. "... and... if this isn't some sort of threat? If it's just someone wasting their time?"
By now, the two siblings had reached the door of the throne room. Fuyumi pressed her hand on the wood, feeling the iron structured around it to hold the boards of wood together. It smelled of fresh metal, like there was not a speck of rust on it.
"Well... perhaps it isn't... but what do you think it is?"
Natsuo suddenly bit his lip and looked down. "W-well... I don't know... I guess that's why I started to make my way here, to see if father knew anything about it. But it could be an attack! There was an explosion in one of the squares-!"
"A firework."
"Yes, but it's still a bit unusual... except if it came from that trick shop. I'm surprised father hasn't kicked them out yet."
Fuyumi faced the door again and curled her hand over the handle. "But those beams of light aren't anything that trick shop sells. If anything, they seemed like magic. It's still a little suspicious, so I'm going to confront father about it."
