Chapter Forty-One: All for One

"In ancient times, the gods of our world lived among us, walking the same earth as the very people they cared for. They resided in homes built by mortal hands, shopped in the same markets ran by living creatures, spoke with and befriended the ones they created. Despite this, they never held themselves to higher positions. Even though the fey and mers praised them for their power, and the elves thanked them for their magic gifts, and the humans blessed them with their lives: the four gods never used it against them.

It was peaceful. Everyone lived with each other as perfect equals.

One day, a pair of twins were born. Their names were unknown, but they were very important to the people around them. The first was bold, strong, and cunning. He didn't have many friends, for most of the other children were afraid of him. The only people that dared to get close to him were fools who wanted to test him.

The second was very different. He was scrawny and weak, but possessed a heart of kindness that no one else could compare to. He was able to stop arguments in the streets, calm crying children, and communicate with everyone he knew. This power he had was a strange one, but it kept peace wherever he went.

The twins grew older, and as they did, they became less interested in playing and more interested in their studies. They would spend hours in their local libraries, trying to learn as much as they could. The village suspected that they would be great scholars in the future.

Despite what it seemed, the first twin's studies were not innocent. Stories of power, strong spells, distant places: he lusted for it all. His mind was corrupted by the words on the pages, and each time he picked up a new book, his selfish desires were fed... but only temporarily.

The second twin was intrigued by much different things. Fascinated by the kingdom he lived in, he made it his mission to learn all about it. The dragons that were just starting to settle in with northern clans, the newfound royalty settling on the coast, even all the tiny villages and trading centers that were scattered along inside - they were all so fascinating! He yearned to know more...

Suddenly, they learned about the gods.

The gods created all life around them, possessed magic that no one else had, and shared love with everyone they knew. These gods attracted both twins, but for different intentions...

So they packed their bags and set off together to try and find these gods. The first twin couldn't stop thinking about how he would use their magic for his own intentions, but the second simply wanted to learn more from the celestial group.

It took them weeks, but eventually, they ran into a group of four mysterious people. Each of them were different from each other. They sensed the second twin's loving heart and reached out to him, but they ignored the first twin.
