"he isn't worth crying about."

Namjoon tells Helena. he doesn't mean to come across as dominant but he does. he has to because he's her protector and family. his tone is aggressive and brotherly as he talks to his sister about something they've previously discussed. he wants to be there for her.

"he's our brother Namjoon." Helena wipes her tears roughly.

Helena believes Namjoon is right but also wrong. there's truth in his words but the elder also distracts himself from reality, facing the world with logic instead of passion and love. it's what he's learnt from being a teacher. logic gets you places. when bad things happen, he moves on quickly. but deep inside, Helena knows he keeps it all to himself and needs someone.

she wants to be that someone. she wants to be there for him.

"i pretend he doesn't exist." Namjoon says with no emotion.

Helena understands. sometimes it's better to not feel so deeply.

"if you're so angry about him leaving, why did you decide to love his kid as if it's your own?" Helena snaps- image of Helia flashing in her head. occasionally, they talk about the topic. whenever they do, it's full of sensitivity and emotion due to differing opinions and complex thoughts. they try not to talk about it but sometimes it's unavoidable.

like today, Namjoon caught his sister crying over the letter. the same letter he wanted to burn when he first read it. he is still angered. at one point, he was a calm individual, then life pushed him down repeatedly.

"because he's my brother." Namjoon says out loud. the single word 'brother' hits both of them- it's impact is deep as it sits in the air between them. "and she deserves the world." he refers to Helia- his 'adopted' child.

"do you think he'll ever come back?"

Namjoon doesn't want to hear his sisters hopes. their younger brother won't come back. he's been gone for the longest time. he left his family. what could one possibly hope for?

"Helena, just don't."

"your expectations used to be so high." the female argues back.

Adora and Helia are sleeping quietly on the same bed. tired Namjoon woke up in the middle of the night for a glass of water. instead he found his sister, Helena clutching a letter that was way too familiar. the discussion arose from that moment.

"we have to let go and move on." Namjoon sits next to her. their contrasting heights makes Helena lean her head on his shoulder. "he chose to leave." and nothing else is spoken.

the next day is Christmas day.

Helena wasn't feeling the spirit. last night left her bitter.

that's until she looks out of the fogged up window to see Yoongi. he's standing across the path, separating their two houses as he waves her over with mistletoe. Helena smiles because it's okay not to be okay.
